Sybil Giannone Obituary

Sybil Rochelle Giannone (née Birnbaum) passed away peacefully at home, at the age of eighty-three, surrounded by her family, on September, 13th 2025. Sybil was born January 23rd, 1942 in Queens, New York. In her early years she performed in school musicals, considering perusing a career in musical theater. Instead, she met and married Joe S. Giannone while both were working in Manhattan, moved out to California in 1965 and raised three children, Joe, Rich & Paul Giannone. As the kids grew older, Sybil returned to school, achieving a degree in social work and eventually found her true calling, running the career center at Foothill High School for many, many years. Winning multiple awards for her work at the career center, Sybil was beloved by the staff and students alike, spearheading a number of grant-based programs which offered her students opportunities well beyond what was normally expected or required. In her spare time, Sybil was a voracious reader of fiction, especially murder mysteries. She also greatly enjoyed trips to the beach, going back as far as the late 1940's, when, as a child, her parents would take her to the beach and boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Another of Sybil's favorite activities was riding her recumbent tricycle, most often along the bike trails in Folsom, CA, but occasionally taking trips to ride along the Monterey and San Francisco Bay trails. Sybil is loved and missed beyond words by her surviving family, her aforementioned husband Joe and three sons. At Sybil's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sacramento SPCA.
