Timothy CURRAN Obituary

CURRAN, Timothy Charles
On May 14, 2010, Tim Curran passed away after a year-long battle with cancer. Timothy Charles Curran was born on September 24, 1957, in Fontana, Calif. In 1975 as a catcher at San Juan High School, he was named to The Sacramento Bee's All-Metro team. He joined the Army in 1977, serving in the 25th Infantry Division, 1st of the 27th Battalion, Wolfpack. Tim was a medic, stationed at Trippler Army Base in Hawaii. He took part in Operation Team Spirit in Korea. Tim finished his service at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colo., as a 91C. Honorably discharged in 1983, he went on to graduate with a BSN from Sacramento State and earn his R.N. license. The majority of Tim's nursing career was spent at Sutter General Hospital where he worked in the ICU, Recovery Room, served as Director of the E.R., and finally Coordinator of the Anesthesia Department in Surgery. In 1996 he went into medical sales, most of it at Gore and Associates, until he retired in 2009. Tim was also dedicated to youth sports - he coached Little League, served for a year as the President of the River Park Little League, and coached boys' basketball for three years at St. Francis Elementary. Tim is survived by the most important person in his life, his 18-year-old son Riley, Riley's mother Marsha Hartberg, brothers Robert and John, sister Patty Ann, and many friends. A Wake will be held on June 4, starting at 4 p.m. at the Limelight. Any donations should be made to The Prostate Cancer Foundation (www.pcf.org).

I so relished having Tim as my brother in law by marriage-such a gregarious, bigger than life, teddy bear of a man quick with a warm hug-please give my love to my Sis Nancy, the boys TJ and Kyle, and all whom we loved and miss so very much-in our hearts forever Tim, Love Jan Nilsson-Dunnigan, CA

Tim was a good friend to my father, Krsto Vlahovich. Tim greatly enhanced my father's retirement years by having him care for the River Park Little League field that was only a block from his home. I am sad Tim's life was shortened, he contributed so much.

The fun of watching Timmy grow up with all the other Curran kids in our great home town of Rialto, California will always remain in my heart. I cannot believe the youngest of us all, is gone. May loving memories of Timmy sustain everyone during this difficult time.

Dear Riley - your dad will always be my baby brother. Oh how I adored him. I grieve for all the missed years of not knowing you. I imagine he and Nana and Papa and Aunt Pat and Aunt Tina and Cousin Chuck and TJ and Kyle and Nancy all together playing cards or tossing the baseball around. I loved him so much. Patti

I knew Tim back when he was at Sutter General and I was a pharmaceutical rep. Working with him was such a pleasure and I was truly shocked to read that he had passed away. His quick wit and personality was infectious. I was going through a drawer recently and saw his Gore card and thought that I should probably touch base with him - it was not meant to be. We both talked of our kids and Riley, you were the love of his life. May your memories be everlasting.

Tim's appetite for life was amazing. Now we know why. Thank goodness he seized every opportunity to enjoy the best of everything. Be it tequila, cigars, Little League, or cars, Tim generously indulged himself along with his family and friends. His dedication to family defined him. Tim Curran was the proudest father I’ve ever known. What joy Riley brought to his life. How lucky we all were to have been in the presence of this proud, generous, complicated, and passionate, life- enlarging spirit. Your Irish eyes will always be smiling. Watch over us dear boy until we meet again. With great affection, your buddy, Hali.

I've known Uncle Tim most of my life. He lived in California and we were in Minnesota, but it was always exciting when he'd come visit us on the farm. He loved to mow lawn using our big lawnmower; BBQ hamburgers for the family; give 'whirlibirds', and would always listen to our stories, even if we (nieces and nephews) kept him from socializing with the adults. :)

Unlce Tim had a wonderful smile, infectious laugh and a zest for life. I was looking forward to seeing him in a week, but it was not to be. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Thanks for the memories!

Love, Sarah

Riley and family - I am so sad about the loss of Tim. I have know Tim for about the past 8 years or so working with him and have been in touch with him throughout the past year. He talked so much about you Riley and how proud he was of you and I'm sure this must be very difficult for you. I feel for Bob too as I know he has suffered loss of his boys and his wife not too long ago. He will be missed by many. I will pray for healing for all of you. God Bless.

While Tim may have started out as co-worker he evolved to being most importantly a dear, dear friend to my husband and me. His infectious personality, passion for life, compassion for others and keen wit & sense of humor made him so lovable. For Tim, the motto: "Go Big or Go Home" truly fits. His love for Riley was demonstrated in every action and somehow very conversation included thoughts about Riley. This last year upon learning of this late stage diagnosis, Tim faced the terms of an uncertain future with gusto wringing out every minute of fun that he could with friends and family. We can't believe our ride with him is now over. We mourn for Riley and Marsha. We mourn for his dear and closest friend Garth who has personified what it means to be a true friend...not just in good times but in the most challenging of times as well. May God accept the soul of this returning angel and give him endless peace and happiness. We just love you Tim. Lori & Carroll Souza

Tim lived in my neighborhood and he drove me to San Juan HS everyday my soph year. He always had a smile on his face and something funny to say each morning. It made going to school an adventure. Bless you, JoAnne Sisler (Sylvia)

Too many memories! Partying on Lake Shasta, cruising the Delta in the Bayliner, ballgames, and most important of all watching our kids grow up. What a journey! It ended too soon.

I played baseball with Tim at San Juan High for four years. Those four years were nearly forty years ago, but it just seems like yesterday when San Juan won our league champioship. GOD BLESS you Tim.

Timmy was an incredible inspiration and mentor to the young men at St. Francis Elementary School. Our boy's had all the coolest gear and always looked the best. This was due to Timmy's kind generosity. He was extremely dedicated coach and parent. His can do attitude and smile will always be remembered. My thoughts and prayers are with Riley and Marsha!
See you at the Lime Light....
