Vernon L. Sturgeon

STURGEON, Vernon L.
Passed away on November 7, 2004, at age 89. Formerly of California, Mr. Sturgeon last lived in Eugene, OR, and was a resident of the Lane County Area for 18 years. In Longview, WA, he married Esther Maston, who preceded him death in 1990 after nearly 52 years of marriage. He later married Edythe Cole in Eugene in 1992. Mr. Sturgeon was owner and operator of a milk distributing company who also spent years in city and state government. He served as mayor of Paso Robles, CA, for 12 years, as state senator from San Luis Obispo County for eight years and as a member of Governor Ronald Reagan's legislative staff. He was also appointed to the California Public Utilities Commission for 12 years, and after retirement he served for eight years as an advisor to the National Public Utilities Commission. He enjoyed watching sports and politics on television. Mr. Sturgeon is survived by his wife, Edythe, daughters Elaine Healey of Aptos, CA, and Carolyn Rexius of Eugene, son Rick Sturgeon of Elk Grove, CA, brother Wilmer Sturgeon of Bakersfield, CA, sister Mildred Barclay of Paso Robles, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, Nov. 11, at South Hills Assembly of God in Eugene. Private burial at West Lawn Memorial Park.
