Wayne Douglas Obituary
Born December 4, 1907 in Lexington, Illinois, died November 21, 2002 in Sacramento, California. Mr. Douglas was the son of William and Minnie Douglas, Mattewan, MI. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University, and a highly-respected and loved teacher, high school principal, and superintendent of schools in Gobles, Michigan. Mr. Douglas was a dynamic and successful businessman, serving as President of Classrooms Incorporated of Okemos, Michigan. He moved to California in 1962, where he was a realtor and loan broker until age 92. Wayne enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the West, especially California (his favorite spot in the world was King's Canyon). Mr. Douglas is survived by his wife of 71 years Florence Myers Douglas; his children David Douglas, Sacramento, CA; Deanne (Don) Doorlag, Oceanside, OR; Richard (Dorothy) Douglas, Irvine, CA; and Paul Douglas, Sacramento, CA; his brothers Franklin Douglas, Atlanta, GA and Bill Douglas, Kalamazoo, MI; He was preceded in death by brother Clark Douglas, daughter Linda Singh, son Bill Douglas, and grandson Brian Douglas. Mr. Douglas was also survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. According to his wishes, Mr. Douglas has been cremated, no services will be held, and his ashes will be scattered at a favorite mountain stream in the High Sierras. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mr. Douglas's memory to The Glaucoma Research Foundation, 490 Post Street, Ste. 1427, San Francisco, CA 94102; www.glaucoma.org.

I knew not of Mr Wayne Douglas except thru his son Richard (BinK) Douglas who served in the U.S.Navy aboard the same Navy Destroyer I did. I see from his fathers legacy a lot of what I see In Binks life. I just hope at my age of 77 that I might leave as great a legacy as Mr Wayne Douglas did..God Bless the Douglas family, may the Lord always have a hand in their lives and guide them.Richard (Leo) & Jaie Le BlancBMC Retired 1962

My Dad was a fighter to the end. He was two weeks from his 95th birthday and was still sharp mentally and kept his Douglas wit to his final days. I was so glad to be in Sacramento and to be with him and have a chance to tell him how much we all loved him. He was not in pain at the end. He and my Mom were married 71 years and had a very good life together. What an amazing man - still working two years ago in his office, on the phone, putting deals together, asking about others, he was an inspiration to everyone.

That wise guy! The coolist grandpa in the world! The man with iron grip!That is what I would say to him every time I saw him, then I would reach around and pinch him on the tooch.He shared alot of wisdom with everyone. He taught me to cook,garden, and took me on lots of wild camping trips. He was my friend.I will miss him, but how can I not smile every time I think of him,for he was a funny and special man.I will miss you gramps.
