William A. "Bill" Dollison III

William Dollison Obituary

DOLLISON III, William A. ''Bill''

Passed away in Courtland, CA, on July 19, 2006, at the age of 69. Born January 10, 1937 in Denver, Colorado to William A. Dollison, Jr. and Virginia B. Dollison. Preceded in death by his father and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Dollison. He is survived by his wife, Donna L. Reed; his mother; his children, Bill (Karen), Cindy (Miki), David (Alex), his nephew, Kenneth Burnside; sister, Leanne Burnside; stepchildren, Chelsea Barnes (Tony), Julieanne Hinrichsen (Patrick) and his grandchildren, Jamie Sanchez, Reed Barnes, Victoria Dollison, Chynna Hinrichsen and Xander Hinrichsen, all of whom loved him dearly. Bill brought his family to California in 1959. He came to teach Math and Science at Franklin High School in Stockton. He was subsequently awarded a National Merit Scholarship to study at the University of New Mexico. In the fall of 1963, Bill began teaching at Sacramento City College. He taught Physics, Chemistry, and Math, retiring in May of 2004. During his teaching career, Bill always had a second business: janitorial, pool service, vending and real estate to name a few. Bill was a skilled teacher who genuinely loved teaching. Nothing made him happier than to see a student "get it". Through the years, he received numerous cards and letters thanking him for his patience and persistence in imparting knowledge to his students, many of whom stated that they would not be where they were without his teaching. Bill was always frugal with his money, driving old vehicles and skimping on himself, but he was always generous to others, always willing to help when needed. He will be missed by many, especially his family. A celebration of Bill Dollison's life will be held on Thursday, July 27, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Dante Club, located at 2330 Fair Oaks Blvd., Sacramento. All those who cared for Bill are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, please use the money to do something you enjoy and think of Bill.

One of the best teachers I ever had I was lucky to have him for Chem 51 beginning chemistry and chem 1A that gave me a very solid understanding of chemistry when I transferred to Sac State. He made chemistry simple and used the dimnsional analysis method which I used in physics and still use to this day to solve various problems. Truly outstanding.

Bill, I will always remember your kindness, your cute dog who went around with you in your car as you refilled the vending machines at Sacramento Business and Skills Center at the old Fair Grounds on Stockton Boulevard. Later, I changed jobs and there you were at Sacramento City College teaching Math and Physics. I always found you interesting to talk to and your blue eyes always sparkled when you talked about some new business endeavor and the successes of your students. I have missed you since you have retired from Sacramento City College, and now I miss you more. Thank you for your kindness to students and staff. Thank you for your stories and smiles.

I am so very sad to hear about Bill. I knew him from his rental properties and he was always so nice to all his tenants. He was always very generous to us for our Christmas luncheons or charitable functions the Section 8 office was involved with. I had seen Bill this last Christmas season and he was looking so good. he will be missed very much.

I will always think of Bill when I think of SCC. Hardly a day went by without seeing him wave to me in Lillard Hall.

Scott and I send our sympathy to his family for he will be missed.

Bill, our life would not have been the same without your precious friendship. We will value the 21 years of knowing you. No words can possibly express how much you meant to our family. As I told you many times you were like a guardian angel to us. Our whole family loved you and will miss you dearly. You had such an amazing impact on all who knew you. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family; may they always think of the wonderful memories and joyful times as they share such a wonderful man's life. You will be forever in our hearts.

Bill was a special man. Although he was not a joiner, his support of the Courtland Community organizations such as Franklin Lodge (Masons) was greatly appreciated.

Bill was a great guy. I always enjoyed his company. I can still see him in the Math Lab helping all he could with science and math. He gave freely of his time and shared his life with students and faculty. I will always remember him as a happy and caring person.

I remember taking Chemestry from Mr. Dollison back in 1976. He was a very good instructor. I remember to this day, he would say that we would not move on to the next item of instruction until everyone understood this item. And he meant it. There was no question left unanswered. He genuinely wanted everyone to learn. After I started working at Sacramento City College in 1982, I made sure that my student / athletes knew about Mr. Dollison's classes. There are only a few instructors that I feel left an impression on me, and although I only knew him in the classrom, he has been with me throughout. My heart goes out to the Dollison Family. You have much to be proud of by the way he led his life.

A number of years ago I took a class from Bill and learned many things that I've used over the years. I incorporated many of his thoughts into my lectures here at SCC and had encouraged my students to take a class from Bill.

I will count him as one of those Professors that made a difference in my life. I will miss him.

Bill was my boss and friend for many years. For the most part I always enjoyed talking with him. He always seemed to enjoy just being in the neighborhood where we were working. He also loved just walking from house to house and talking with all the tenants. He was the fairest man I ever worked for. He was always ready to talk to me or listen to me, also he always listened to any suggestions I might have. I will miss talking to him and seeing him just make his appearance. Gerald G. Silva Jr.
