William PHILLIPS Obituary

PHILLIPS, William Helton
Born in Sacramento on March 9, 1922 and passed away peacefully on January 30, 2010 at 87 years. He was the only son of Esther Earp Phillips and Harold Douglas Phillips. After graduation in 1940 from Sacramento High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in the Philippine Islands during World War II. While home on leave in 1943, he met and married the girl of his dreams, Marge (Margaret Fredrickson) visiting Sacramento from Hubbard, Iowa. During their 66 years of marriage, he was the loving father of Linda Kae Stechman (Chuck) and William H. Phillips Jr., M.D. (Michelle). He was the proud "Papa" of grandchildren Gregory (Jenny) and Laura Stechman, Heather and Matthew Phillips and great-grandpapa to Whitney Ellen Stechman. He worked as a purchasing agent for local plumbing businesses Dallman Company and Heick Supply for nearly 40 years. During his retirement he enjoyed playing golf, gambling at Lake Tahoe or Reno and following his favorite major league baseball teams. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather who delighted his family and friends with his quick wit and sense of humor. He will be greatly missed, but not forgotten. At his request, no services will be held. His final resting place will be in the Gardenia Room at East Lawn, Folsom Blvd. in Sacramento.
