William Townshend Obituary

William (Bill) Townshend
January 4, 1941 - July 3, 2021
Citrus Heights, California - William (Bill) Henry Townshend of Citrus Heights, CA passed away July 3, 2021 at the age of 80. Bill was born in Shelby, MT on January 4, 1941, the son of William James (Jimmy) and Mabel Ellen (Edwards) Townshend. He grew up in Oilmont, MT with his hard-working parents and siblings. After two years of service in the Army, he married Patricia Weigand and relocated to Sacramento in 1965, where he raised his family. Bill had an incredible work ethic and dedication to his career at AAA, which took him across Northern California and to Sparks, NV for a few years in 1991. By the time he retired from AAA after relocating back to the Sacramento area, many of his colleagues had become lifelong friends. Bill loved fishing, playing golf, watching the Green Bay Packers and Boston Celtics, and spending time with his family and friends. To know him was to love him and he will be greatly missed for his witty humor, cantankerous spirit, and generous heart.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, William James Townshend and Mabel Ellen Townshend, and his granddaughter Patricia Elaine Townshend. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Joseph O'Neal, son William Townshend, granddaughter Payton O'Neal, grandson William Shier, brother Byron Townshend (wife Mary), sister Pamela Cook (husband Paul), nephews Ryan Enix (wife Denathea) and Jeffry Townshend, nieces Lori Eichman (husband Jeff) and Kristi Mason (husband James), and a multitude of friends who were like family to him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Family Chapel at Mount Vernon Memorial Park & Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA 95628. It is with great sadness that I just learned of Bill's passing. Bill and I worked together at CSAA for about 31 years and were together a lot when we traveled out of the M.O. BI Claims Relief Staff back in the '80's. We had lots of good times together over the years and I always enjoyed seeing Bill come to the GOOBER luncheons that I would set up down here in the Modesto-Turlock area for the past 20 yrs. post our retirement. We often spoke on the phone or exchanged e-mails. especially after Bill became DCM in Sac-Madisen and I was a Supv. in the M.O. Claims Litigation Dept. I will really miss Bill and his good humor.

May the Good Lord bless Bill and his family and keep all of you safe.

We both worked with Bill at CSAA in Sacramento. Ralph in sales and I was in claims. Bill was my boss and/or supervisor at various times during my career....Funny guy and also very well versed on Auto Claims. I enjoyed the many years we worked together and had kept in touch via messaging in recent years...RIP Bill...you will be missed.
