Goldia Wilson Obituary

SMITHSBURG, Md. - Goldia "Goldie" J. Wilson, 76, of Smithsburg, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at home, where she had been under Hospice care following an illness.

Born June 17, 1940, in Warren Pa., she was the daughter of the late Russell C. and Hazel A. Confer.

She had previously worked at Parkview Supermarket in Salamanca, N.Y., before relocating to Maryland in 2001. On July 1, 2016, she retired from a job she thoroughly enjoyed with Washington Board of Education as a para pro at Marshall Street School/Job Development Program.

She was an active member of Tri-State Civitan and a supporter of Washington County Special Olympics. She enjoyed shopping, spending time with family and friends and adored her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Gordon D. Shattuck; second husband Robert "Tom" Wilson; a sister, Nancy Perry; and her four-legged companion of many years, Cinders.

Surviving are three daughters, Tamara (Karl) Ackley of Gerry N.Y., Theresa (Jerry) Rowe of Smithsburg and Karyn (Duane) Fox of Little Valley N.Y.; a brother, Edward "Punk" (Dorothy) Confer of Killbuck, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was affectionately referred to as "Grandma Goldie" by many others.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Washington County, nurse Cindy, and CNA's Tina and Michelle for the care they provided, which enabled Goldie to remain at home where she wanted to be.

Memorial donations may be made to Tim Tebow Foundation, 2220 County Road 210W, Suite 108, PMB317, Jacksonville, FL 32259,: Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742; Washington County Special Olympics, PO Box 152, Funkstown, MD 21734; or Tri-State Civitan, P.O. Box 546, Funkstown, MD 21734.

Arrangements were handled by J. L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. It was her wish that there was no viewing, or services, however, family and friends will celebrate Goldie's life on her birthday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

Burial services will be at Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, at the convenience of the family.
