Betty Lorraine Culver, 94, passed peacefully September 5, 2021, in Salinas, CA.
Betty was born March 3, 1927 in Hanford, CA to Ed and Lucinda Houx. She is survived by her daughter Julia Silveira and many nieces and nephews. Betty's four years of high school were the four years of World War II.
Betty was greatly impacted by the fact that so many of the brave young men she went to King City High School with and knew so well, left King City to travel great lengths at even greater peril to protect our country. She graduated in 1945.
Betty enjoyed working at the California Division of Forestry (CalFire). She was awarded the Fire-person of the year for her tireless work on the 1977 Marble Cone Fire. She retired after 27 years of service.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Lucinda "Lucy" Houx; husband Gent Culver; husband Ed "Robin" Hood; Brothers Bob (Pat) (Marge) Houx; Cecil (Alice) Houx; Raymond (June) Houx; Sisters LaVerne Harness and Pauline (Bob) Hall; and son-in-law John T. Silveira.
Betty would not want you to be saddened by her passing, but to celebrate her long life well lived. Donations may be made in her honor to Hartnell College Foundation/John Silveira Health & Peace Nursing Scholarship or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Arrangements were entrusted to Eddington Funeral Services, 429 Bassett St., King City, (831) 385-5400,
