Massimilla (Mildred) Tunzi died at Eden Valley Dare Center in Soledad on Aug. 28, 2021 after a very long stay and a very brief acute illness.
She was born June 8, 1923 in Lodano, Ticino, Switzerland and was the youngest member of her family when they moved to Greenfield in November 1929.
With great perseverance after many delays, she graduated from San Jose State University in the early 1960's with a teaching credential and began a roughly 20-year elementary school teaching career in San Lucas and Greenfield.
After retirement, she continued teaching religious education for Holy Trinity parish.
In 2006, after a severe stroke, she entered Eden Valley Care Center, where she continued to teach-albeit in a different role-helping new generations of caregivers, over 15-years, learn how to care for the disabled elderly with dignity and grace.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Giosia and Gelsomina Tunzi; sister, Gina Mattei; and brothers, Emilio, Eligio, and Frank Tunzi. She is survived by her nephew, Dr. Marc Tunzi; and family.
She is also survived by many, many current and past staff members at Eden Valley to whom the Tunzi family is deeply grateful. God bless you.
Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021 at 9:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Greenfield; followed with burial at the Greenfield Cemetery.
