Don Omar passed away surrounded by his loved ones at home on August 4 after a lengthy illness. Omar was born Jan. 17, 1928 in Zaragosa, Coahuila Mexico. He grew up in his beloved Nueva Rosita, Coahuila Mexico. He was 93 years old. He came to the United States in 1956 and soon made his way to Greenfield, Calif. That is where he met and married his wife of 55 years, Elidia "Lily" Sanchez (Castillo). Omar worked at Bassetti Farms as a Foreman/Supervisor for 25 years. After retirement, he spent most of his free time in his garden. He loved baseball, especially the San Francisco Giants. One of his favorite activities was barbequing for his family. His specialty was chicken with Lily's secret basting. He also loved taking day trips with Lily. They would disappear all day and always be home before sunset. He was the father to 11 children and seven step-children. Omar was preceded in death by his parents, Maclovio and Dolores Sanchez; his wife, Lily Sanchez; his brother, Alejandro Sanchez (Texas); his sisters, Ma de Los Angeles Sanchez (Mexico), Olivia Z'Cruz (Mexico), Dora Marines (Texas); his sons, Robert Pavia of Fresno, Calif., David Castillo of Greenfield, Rudy Castillo of Fresno. Omar is survived by his sister, Yolanda Enriquez (Mexico); his children, Daniel Castillo (Letty) of Bakersfield, Calif., Gloria Castillo of Soledad, Calif., Richard Castillo (Isabel) of Greenfield,, Diana Castillo of Stockton, Calif., Sandra Rossetti (Kip) of San Diego, Calif., Dora Mosqueda (Hector) of Salinas, Calif., Armando Sanchez (Sylvia) of Salinas, Lori Sanchez of Salinas, Ma Lourdes de Lopez (Ramiro) of Mexico, Imelda de San Miguel (Arturo) of Mexico, Leticia de Esquivel (Fernando) of Mexico, Dolores de Flores (Pablo) of Mexico, Gabriela Amparo de Torres (Javier) of Mexico, San Juanita de Molina (Jesus) and Claudia de Rascala (Ernesto) of Mexico. He is also survived by 47 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
