Pete Vachek Obituary
Born in Karlovy Vary, Czechoslovakia, he grew up dreaming of being a free American. At 21, he defected by way of Montreal, Canada, making his way to Monterey, California where eventually he earned his American citizenship in 1988. He went on to buy and build his ranch in Lockwood. Leaving printing and becoming a painter, his hard work and craftsmanship can be seen throughout south county including his extensive work reinvigorating much of the San Antonio Mission murals and wallscapes.
While his death was sudden, he lived a fulfilling life with his friends, family, and animals. He lived out his American dream. He will be remembered for his kindness, friendship, humor, and thoughtfulness. A Celebration of Life will be held in Lockwood on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Dear family of Petr,
Please accept my condolences for the loss of this wonderful person. I am Petr's friend from his time in Prague and during his military service.
We were friends, and before he emigrated to Canada and the USA, he asked me to go with him.
I did so two years later but stayed in Europe.
I am sad now and remember him and our time together far in the past.
