Adam Lester Peeler

Adam “Lester” Peeler, 86 of Mt. Ulla, went to serve the Lord's house on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018. Born in Rowan County on Dec. 15, 1931, he was the son of the late Adam Luther and Ada Jane Lapish Peeler. Lester was a 1950 graduate of Mt. Ulla High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Salisbury-Rowan School System for over 35 years. He ended his career at Hurley Elementary school as custodian, retiring in 1989. He was well loved by the children and staff of Hurley. After retirement from the schools, he was employed by his church as custodian. He was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church of Salisbury where he served his Lord in various compacities since 1958. Lester sang in the choir for over 54 years. Being ordained as a Deacon in 1962, he was bestowed the honor of Deacon Emeritus in 2004. Lester taught young boys Sunday School classes and served as a RA commander. He was instrumental in starting the Young Married Couples class, teaching it for 29 years. He served as Sunday School and Brotherhood Director. During his retirement years, he led the Young at Heart's Senior Adult Group. Lester was an avid golfer, and enjoyed sports, coaching Little League Baseball and church basketball. He loved saltwater fishing and was a big movie and sports buff. In addition to parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Martha Ann Houpe Peeler on Feb. 8, 2003; seven brothers; and two sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his second wife, Faye Smith Peeler, whom he married May 28, 2005; children, Pamela Peeler Safrit (Cass) of Salisbury, Timothy Lester Peeler (Lisa) of Salisbury, Susan Peeler Stiller (Mark) of Mt. Ulla, Jayne Peeler Petrea (Chuck) of Rockwell and William David Peeler (Sarah) of Charlotte; three step-children; a brother, George Washington Peeler (Rachel) of Salisbury; grandchildren, Les-Lee Ihme (Kevin), Cassie Thompson, Samantha Peeler, Calen Stiller, Corey Stiller (Candice), Adam Petrea (Maggie), Hannah Clark (Steve), Todd Shipton, Magen Shipton, Owen Peeler and Ellys Peeler; seven step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and ten step-great-grandchildren. Visitation & Service: The family will receive friends from 5-6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018 at Stallings Memorial Baptist Church Rhyne Building. The funeral service will follow at 6:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Earl Pennell. Interment service will be 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018 in the Salisbury VA National Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the North Carolina National Guard and the Rowan County Veteran's Honor Guard.
