I am saddened to learn that Dr. Wilhelm passed last year. I did a search recently and found this obituary.
Then-Mr. Wilhelm taught me two years of French, 1975-77, at Atlanta's Southwest High School. He was excellent. Only later did I come to appreciate how much so.
My wife and I were fortunate to spend a few extensive summer vacations in Paris this past decade. She had French in college and reads the language better than I. But I speak French much better than she, *entirely* thanks to Arthur Wilhelm. No exaggeration, the highlight of my 2018 summer was when a clerk in a department store (les Galeries Lafayette) said to me, "Parlez bien français!" I beamed the entire summer! Mr. Wilhelm provided me knowledge and a foundation on which to build.
I wish I had shared that story before he passed, but next-best thing is to pass along to his loved ones and whoever later encounters this remembrance.

I remember him when he taught us French at Southwest High School in Atlanta in the 60s. I thought he was 'old' -but now I see he was only 10 years older than us. He never boasted about his accomplishments, so only now do I see what a remarkable man he was, and we were lucky to have him.

To all of those who have sent condolences, I fully appreciate the kind words and thoughts. It is hard to express my feelings about his passing. As his sister, I shall always miss him and shall do my best to honor his memory.

My prayers go out to Mr. Wilhelm's loved ones. Thank God for social media. A couple of years ago, I was able to locate and reconnect with him on Facebook. He said he remembered me well. He was well-ahead of his time. He accepted me with no regard to race. I will always remember him as a the gentle French teacher meticulously dressed, always tanned with a beautiful head of blond hair, and a wonderful smile. Rest In Peace, Mr. Wilhelm.

My memory fails me on a lot of things from my past, but I do remember Mr. Wilhelm's English classes at Southwest High School in Atlanta. It's a blessing & legacy to know that you made such an impression on a student. Rest in peace Mr Wilhelm.

My wife and I are sorry to learn of Arthur's passing. We enjoyed visiting with him at our 50th high school reunion and found him to be a fascinating and stimulating conversationalist. RIP, Arthur.
