Carol Harkrader Obituary

Carol Leigh Hoke Harkrader, 63, of Spartanburg, S.C., died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born March 23, 1954, in Hickory, she was the daughter of the late George A. Hoke and Nell Yount Hoke. Mrs. Harkrader, a retired teacher of Alamance County, was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College and received her Master's Degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte. She taught at The Governor Morehead School for the Visually Impaired and was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. Survivors include her husband, Robert R. “Bob” Harkrader III; sons, Carr Harkrader of Chicago, Ill., and Clay Harkrader of Burlington; brother, Al Hoke (Marilyn) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; father-in-law, R. R. Harkrader Jr. of Salisbury; sisters-in-law, Amy Harkrader of Forest City and Kathy Lannom of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and nephews, Dr. Wesley Hoke of Atlanta, Ga., Will Lannom and Michael Lannom both of Hendersonville, Tenn. Visitation and Service: Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Hickory, NC, by The Reverend Richard Fritz. Inurnment will be in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church Memorial Gardens. A visitation and reception for all will follow in the church Fellowship Hall. Memorials: The family requests that memorials be sent to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29303; St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 629 8th Street NE, Hickory, NC 28601; or Lenoir-Rhyne University, 625 7th Ave NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
