Carole Anne Christ Shepard

Carole Anne Christ Shepard, 89, of Pineville, NC passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 23, 2023. Born in Chicago, IL on February 17, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Basil and Anna Christ. Carole Attended St. Mary's College in 1952 and then transferred to the University of Illinois in 1956 in the hopes of getting her Teacher's Degree in Special Education. It was there that she met her husband Nathaniel Shepard who was a fellow student who was working on his degree in Industrial Design. They married eight months later and started a family. They were married for 63 years. After raising her family, Carole followed her dream and returned to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Special Education in 1975. Carole and her husband raised four children in West Chicago, Illinois. There they bought a neglected Victorian house in which they restored back to it's beauty and thus found their passion for fixing and flipping houses. She loved to go on camping adventures with her husband. She also loved to sew, read, and play solitaire. She will be remembered for her feisty spirit. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Nathaniel Shepard, her twin brother Basil Christ, a sister Leone Christ, a son Derek Shepard and a daughter-in-law Anna Shepard. Those that are left to cherish her memory are a son, William Shepard of Tennessee; daughters, Cary Bumpus (Gregory) of Charlotte, NC, Peggy Burden (David) of West Chicago, IL; brother-in-law Ralph Shepard (Carol) of Ohio; daughter-in-law Mari Shepard of Tennessee; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144. Lyerly Funeral Home is serving the Shepard family.
