Darren Cloninger

1965 - 2022

Darren Kent Cloninger, 57, of Salisbury, chose to depart this life on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022 at his residence. He was born Feb. 21, 1965 in Morganton to the late Clyde Melvin (Bill) Cloninger and Billie Ann Hunsucker Cloninger. Darren was a 1983 graduate of Newton- Conover High School and earned a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Distribution from Western Carolina University. He worked most of his career for Keystone Homes as a Community Sales Manager, but had recently taken a position with D.R. Horton. Darren was a member of Shiloh Reformed Church and taught Sunday School there for many years. He loved fishing and usually made several trips to the coast every year with his boys or friends and enjoyed posting pictures of his catches. He loved to travel and had recently taken a trip to South America. He and his boys took many trips to Disney World together, and he loved the roller coasters. On his days off, you would most likely find him playing golf. Those of us who love him will remember how he hummed when he ate, sang as he went about his day, and was always up for telling funny stories from the past to make us all laugh. Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Trexler Kent Cloninger and Deacon Clyde Cloninger; sister, Dawn (Bradley) Abernathy of Conover; brother, Devin (Shawna) Cloninger of Conover; uncle, Johnny (Donna) Cloninger; aunt, Sheila Cloninger; four nephews, Tanner Abernathy, Holden Abernathy, Eli Hailey and Quinn Cloninger; niece, Clara Hailey; great-nephew, Azariah Etheridge; great-niece, Shelly Trahan; cousins, Blythe Cloninger, Ryder Morgan, Avalyn Morgan and Miles Cloninger, his dear friend Candice Zipperer and his girlfriend Wendy Antonakakis. Arrangements: A private memorial service will be held with Pastor Wayne Trexler officiating.
