David Bookout Obituary

David Roy Bookout, Jr. went to live with Jesus on Sunday, August 13, 2023. David was born on February 1, 1952 in Charlotte, NC to the late D. Roy Bookout and Sarah Jane New Bookout. David was the older brother to Carol Bookout Biddy. David graduated from Salisbury High School in 1970 and joined the Navy for service of four years (1970-1974) during the Vietnam era. He served aboard the USS Semmes as a machinist mate and traveled the North and South Atlantic and the Mediterranean. After his marriage in 1972 to Melanie Jetton he attended CPCC and UNCC and worked at Reynolds Metals as a purchaser and parts inventory specialist. Next, he chose to follow two dreams. The first to be self-employed as a used car dealer in North Mecklenburg and then to be part of the NASCAR racing community by working as the parts and inventory specialist to Hendrick Motorsports (Levi Garrett team), Heintz Performance (parts specialist to Winston Cup and Busch Grand National teams, Hutcherson Pagan Enterprises (parts specialist to all race team enthusiasts), Richard Petty Driving Experience, Central High Performance, and Advance Auto Parts. David is predeceased by his parents, D. Roy Bookout and Jane New Bookout. Left to cherish his memory is Melanie, his wife of 51 years, his daughter Katie Bookout Hudson (Brent), sister Carol Bookout Biddy (Don) and nephews Jonathan Biddy, Joshua Jetton (Nikki), Jeremy Jetton (Karis), other great nephews and a great niece. David will be remembered for his determination to follow his dreams and to always take care of his family – even with health issues through the years. He had a good and giving heart for those he loved. The Bookout family would like to extend their gratitude to Summersett Funeral Home and especially Dr. Fillmore and staff at Presbyterian Main Neuro ICU. A graveside celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Cornelius, NC. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Bookout family. Online condolences may be made at www.summersettfuneralhome.com. Are they a Veteran?

I became friends with David through my 18 year friendship with Melanie.
He was a good and honorable man, who served our country through his military service, and who loved his family and provided well for them. He will be missed by many people.
