Dixie Shuping Talbert

Dixie Shuping Talbert, 89, of Rockwell, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2026.

She was born July 23, 1936, in Rowan County, NC, one of twelve children of Lee and Esther Basinger Miller. Mrs. Talbert attended Faith and Granite Quarry schools, graduating from Granite Quarry High School. She was a member of Organ Lutheran Church in Salisbury and held lifetime memberships with the Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Mrs. Talbert loved playing BINGO and always looked forward to surf fishing at Carolina Beach. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Talbert was preceded in death by her first husband, L.T. Shuping and her son, Richard Lee Shuping.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Cordell Talbert, Jr., whom she married October 7, 1972; children, Daryl Shuping, Lynn Shuping, Sherry Clark (Rick), Rex Shuping, Susan Safrit (Kenneth), and Kelly Shuping (Lea); 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joan Hammill and Carol Hill (Mike); and brother, C.W. Miller.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 12:30 PM until 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 11, at Powles Staton Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 PM, conducted by the Reverend Tonya Brittain. Burial will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury, NC 28144.
