To my cousins, unfortunately I'm just learning of the passing of my dear cousin Dorothy McGuire. Condolences to the family. I have a very unique experience of working with Dorothy in The brooklyn, queens, Long Island chapter of Livingstone College alumni Association upon graduating from Livingstone. Dorothy and I had so much fun working and attending the various living Stone events together.

"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord." ~2 Corinthians 5:8
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Iota Theta Zeta Chapter Dove, Soror Dorothy McGuire.
Soror McGuire was a great woman of faith, a lifelong educator, and a committed member and sister of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. A prominent member of her Sorority and a Dove (serving over 61 years to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated), Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of stature within her graduate chapter, Iota Theta Zeta, Sorors of the states of New York and North Carolina, and her cousin Past International President, Dr. Jylla Moore Tearte.
Soror McGuire received her undergraduate degree from Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina in 1963 and started her teaching career in Yanceyville, North Carolina. She eventually moved back to New York in 1968 and taught Biology at Freeport High School in Freeport New York for 30 years. During Dorothy's time at Freeport High School, she attended Hofstra University, in Hempstead, New York, and obtained her Master's degree in Education.
Dorothy became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated on the campus of Livingstone College through the Sigma Chapter in 1961. Her love for Zeta was strong and profound. In reflection, Soror McGuire stated- 'Sisterhood means to me loving, caring, sharing, sacrifices, and sticking by each other through thick and thin. Praying and being faithful to each other. I couldn´t ask to be a part of a better sisterhood."
Serving Jesus Christ was at the forefront of Dorothy's life. She was a faithful member at Naomi Temple AME Zion Church in Roosevelt, New York, and was extremely proud of her AME religious heritage. She was also an active member of the Livingstone College Alumni Association. Dorothy McGuire dedicated her life to many community and social organizations.
Dorothy impacted the lives of her family, church, and students with her quick wit and compassion for others. Soror Dorothy McGuire will be missed by all.

As a long-time fellow teaching colleague since 1978, Dorothy was one of the most loving and endearing people to know. She was sincere in her work and made sure her students "towed the line." Dorothy will certainly be missed by all that knew her. She is at peace and deserves rest from pain and affliction.

Our hearts are truly sad to hear this news. I had hoped to speak with and even see Dorothy while I was visiting the US and was in Salisbury. But the phone number I had for her apparently wasn't in service any longer. Dorothy was a warm spirit, a woman of faith. She will be truly missed.
