He proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in France and Germany, where he earned both the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. A gifted craftsman and talented woodworker, he took great pride in his creations. He was also an avid collector of antiques and classic cars. Raised in Ashe County, he carried a lifelong love for the mountains and the place he called home. Pa will be greatly missed by those who loved him most.

In addition to his parents, Everett was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Farmer Messer.

Everett is survived by his two daughters, Michelle Hammill of Richfield, NC and Holly (Brian) Smith of Salisbury, NC; son, Aaron (Ginna) Messer of Durham, NC; five grandchildren, Logan Hammill, Savannah Messer, Ethan Barber, Luke Smith, and Owen Smith; and brother, Vergil (Pat) Messer.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, October 25, 2025, 10:00 am - 10:45 am at East Corinth Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Gold Hill, NC.
