George 'Sammy' Clawson

FAITH - Mr. George Samuel Clawson (Sammy), 59, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at the VA Hospice Unit in Salisbury.

He was a 1970 graduate of Grandby High School in Norfolk, Va., and a graduate of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, where he earned an Associates Degree in HVAC. Mr. Clawson was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed sports.

Mr. Clawson was born Aug. 30, 1952, in Rowan County to Mona Hess Clawson and the late George William Clawson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served on the submarine USS Skipjack.

Before his illness, he was employed at Trelleborg Prodyn, Inc. as a machinist.

He was preceded in death by his father on Dec. 2, 2011.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Sonia Clawson of Charlotte; two sons, Matt Clawson of Salisbury and Ryan Clawson and wife Cindy of Gold Hill; one grandchild, Dawn Marie Clawson; brother Scott Clawson of Faith; and a special friend, Carla Clawson of Granite Quarry.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Powles Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 22 from 10:15 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

Service: The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22 at Powles Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Dr. W.C. Gaither, Jr., pastor of Lyerly Evangelical Church. Burial will follow at the U.S. National Cemetery in Salisbury with Military Graveside Rites conducted by The Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and the North Carolina National Guard.
