Grady Wagoner Obituary
He was born November 4, 1940, in Rowan County, NC, to the late Winford Matthew Wagner and Lula Rose Heilig Wagner. Mr. Wagoner was a graduate of Rockwell High School before enlisting in the United States Air Force, serving from 1959 until 1963. After returning home from military service, he was employed at Fiber Industries and later self-employed as a truck driver, transporting steel from Pennsylvania to Florida. In 1986 he began working at Phillip-Morris, where retired in 2002. Gene enjoyed spending time in his shop whether it was just tinkering or restoring old tractors and cars. He could fix anything that was broken, earning him the nickname "Shadetree." He also enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, Sadie; their last trip, which he thoroughly enjoyed, was a 96 day cruise.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Leroy "Bunch" Wagner, Frances Elizabeth Hammill, Mary Katherine Hampton, and Betty Lorraine Fesperman.
He is survived by his wife Sadie Barger Wagoner, whom he married April 23, 1986; brother, James Irving Wagoner (Jackie); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM on Friday, December 19, at First Baptist Church of Rockwell, where Gene was a member.
A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 19, at the church with the Reverend Matthew Laughter officiating.
A service with military graveside rites will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, December 22, at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury, NC 28144.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Rockwell -Missions Fund, P.O. Box 756, Rockwell, NC 28138.
