Harold L. Mills

KANNAPOLIS - Harold Luther Mills, 91, of 3 Mills Ave., died Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord.

Mr. Mills was born April 19, 1916, in Concord, a son of the late William Luther Mills, Sr. and Alice Litaker Mills. He was a graduate of Winecoff High School and was the former owner and operator of Mills Florist in Concord, Kannapolis and Salisbury.

Harold was a recognized member of the Lions Club and Past President of the Concord Lions Club. He was also a member of N.C. Retail Florist Association and was a founding member and past officer of the Florist Transworld Delivery (FTD).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother William L. Mills, Jr., and a sister, Helen Mills Readling.

Mr. Mills is survived by his wife, Audree Shore Mills; two brothers, Alec Mills and wife Joanne of Rome, Ga., and Roy Mills and wife Annie of Lexington; and three sisters, Sarah Dayvault of Kannapolis, Nell Mills Phillips Mitchell of Treasure Island, Fla., and Dorothy "Dot" Steen and husband Perry of Concord. He is also survived by his caregiver and family friend, David Piatt of Kannapolis.

Service: A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, February 22 at McGill Baptist Church, where he was a lifetime member. Dr. E. Steven Ayers will officiate. The body will lie in-state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home in Kannapolis.
