Helen Hoffner Obituary

Helen Lyerly Hoffner, 86, of Rockwell, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Helen grew up in Rockwell, where she met the love of her life, Jim Hoffner. She graduated from Rockwell High School and went on to attend Catawba College.

Helen and Jim were married in 1958 and built a life centered around family, faith, and community. A devoted wife and mother, Helen gave generously of her time-volunteering with the Girl Scouts, at local schools, and at Organ Lutheran Church. Together, she and Jim raised their family in Rockwell, cherishing time with loved ones at High Rock River, attending Lyerly & Hoffner family reunions, horseback riding, and dancing.

Helen was an active member of the Rowan County Shrine Club and the Miller Russell American Legion Post 112. Affectionately known as "Nana," she was the heart of the family-always ready with a warm hug, a listening ear, and unwavering support at dance recitals and sporting events. Her home was a haven for gatherings, where she made everyone feel loved and welcomed.

A talented seamstress, Helen could mend and alter anything-clothing, upholstery, and curtains alike. She faithfully cooked three meals a day, every day, and her flowers and gardens flourished under her nurturing care.

Helen's love was felt in every stitch, every meal, every hug. Her legacy lives on in the family she so deeply cherished.

Mrs. Hoffner was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Clara Lyerly; her husband, Jim Hoffner; and her brother, Jimmy Lyerly.

Survivors include her children, Starla Summer and husband Neal, Jay Hoffner, and Tonya Silbereisen and husband Andrew; her grandchildren, Kayla Hopkins and husband Mike, Kyle Summer and wife Jenna, Hanna Jonkheer, Sarah Jonkheer and fiance Ethan Baucom and Justin; her great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Wyatt Summer and Landon Hopkins and many nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, 11:00 am - 11:45 am in the Sanctuary at Organ Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in the Organ Lutheran Church sanctuary, Salisbury, NC, with Reverend Tonya Brittain, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Organ Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Organ Lutheran Church, 1515 Organ Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.

Helen has been a big part of the classes that I've taught at the YMCA in Rockwell since 2001 when I started there. She came to Zumba and Easy Does It and other classes regularly. She was so sweet and kind, and we all loved her so much. I'm sending my love and prayers for her beautiful family that she loved so much..
