Henrietta Miller Obituary

Ms. Henrietta Deas “Pudden” Miller, 73, passed on Friday, July 14, 2023 at her residence. Born January 3, 1950 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Paul Parker and Eva Mae Deas Way. She was raised in the home with her grandparents, the late Herbert and Bessie Parker. Educated in the public schools of Rowan County, she was a graduate of J.C. Price High School, Class of 1968. She continued her education graduating with highest honors from Rowan Technical College in 1972 and Winston-Salem State University in Nursing. She worked with Rowan Regional Medical Center as a nurse for 7 years and retired from W. G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center after 27 years. Henrietta received several Special Achievement Awards while at the VA for her service. A member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church where she served, until her health declined, as President of the Nurses Board. In her younger years, she attended Soldiers Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church and Lilly's Chapel Holiness Church. Henrietta was involved in her community working with her group she called “The Village”. She was recognized on January 13, 1995 for her outstanding contributions to the community by receiving the Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award. Until her health declined, she also participated with the Dancing Queens. She was also the manager of the “Empire Crew” dance group. In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her aunt, Daisy Green; uncles, James Rutledge and Nathan Rutledge. Those left to cherish her memories are her son, “Dr.” Brian T. Miller of Salisbury; grandchildren, Tashra Davis of Charlotte, Jarmal Davis, Brianna Miller and Ebony Connor all of Salisbury;11 great grandchildren; brothers Charles Deas of Georgetown, SC and Roosevelt Way of New York; sister, Rosa Bronson of Salisbury; aunt, Janie Louse Rutledge of Yonkers, NY; uncle, S. B. Rutledge of New York; godsons, Edward Blackwell, Cory Neely, Donald Davenport, Timothy Witcher, Frederick Campbell and Patrick Stout; her “Posse”, Linda Dillard, Wanda Ford Jackson, Ann Bryd Wallace, Mary Miller Marlin, Linda Hunter, Shirley Reid and Janora Cain; and a host of other relatives and friends. Arrangements: Public Walk Thru Friday, July 21, 2023 from 2-5pm at the funeral home. Services will be Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church with Visitation at 11:30am and Funeral at 12pm. Interment will follow services at City Memorial Park.
