James Elijah Connor

CHINA GROVE - James Elijah Connor, 87, of Neelytown Rd., China Grove, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2012 at The Brian Center of Salisbury.

Born Nov. 13, 1924 in Rowan Co. he was the son of the late John James Connor and Susan Abernathy Connor.

He was educated in the public schools of Rowan Co. and a veteran of WWII having served with the U.S. Marines in the South Pacific Theater. He retired from Fieldcrest-Cannon as a shift supervisor after 39 years of service. Mr. Connor was a member of Rose of Sharon Holiness Church where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board, Deacon Board, Past Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, and past chairman of the building fund committee; he was a 32nd degree Mason, Past Master of Eureka Lodge #45 Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemason; a member of J.C. Price American Legion Post #107 and served for six years on the advisory council of China Grove Middle School.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, Margaret Ramseur Connor on June 10, 2010.

He is survived by his sons, Alfred (Patricia) James Connor, China Grove; Bobby (Helen) Connor, Kannapolis; Gary Connor and Rickey Connor, both of the home; sister Josephine Redd, Salisbury; two special nephews, Samson Towens, Greensboro and Paul Johnson, N.J.; special niece Earnestine Redd, Salisbury; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Visitation and Services: Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Inc. Service will follow at 12 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Lewis Walker officiating.

Burial will be at the National Cemetery on Statesville Blvd.
