JC Hardister Obituary

JC Hardister, 97, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at The Lutheran Home of Trinity Oaks. Born July 3, 1917, in Rowan County to the late Mattie Lee Eury and C.L. Hardister, he was a graduate of Boyden High School Class of 1934. Mr. Hardister worked as a railroad machinist for Southern Railway in Spencer for 42 years. Mr. Hardister was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church where he served as a Lay Speaker, a Sunday School teacher and Chairman of the Church Board. He began the Young Men Sunday School Class when he was 19. Mr. Hardister was a member of the International Association of Machine and Aerospace Workers (IAM). He was a 33-degree Scottish Rite Master Mason and held all positions local and Grand with Knight of Pythias. Preceding him in death were his first wife, Dorothy Julian Hardister; second wife, Pauline Hardister; sons Julian Hardister at age 6 and Jay Hardister in December 1996; daughter Brenda Hardister, shortly after birth; brother Bill Hardister; and sisters Rachel Evans and Catherine Smith. Surviving are daughter-in-law Barbara Hardister; grandchildren Sharon Beck (David), Kim Riddle (Daniel), Mandy Bostian (Ronnie) and Kenneth “Fuzzy” Hardister (Tracey); as well as great-grandchildren Elizabeth Cox, Annie and Julian Wilkey, Kenny Jordan, Tyler Hardister, Andrew and Melanie Beck, Colby, Gabriel and Victoria Soto, Bryan and Sarah Bostian; and great-great-grandchildren Maddox and Brody Barber, Barrett Cox, Addisyn, Bryan and Emily Hardister. Visitation: The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Thursday (May 21) at Summersett Funeral Home. Service: A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in Summersett Memorial Chapel, conducted by Rev. Kevin House. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park with Scottish Rite graveside rites. Memorials: Rowan Home Health and Hospice, 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC 28144; Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks, 820 Klumac Road, Salisbury, NC 28144.
