John Ratledge Obituary

John “Fil” Fillmore Ratledge, 79, of Mooresville, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. He was born on May 15, 1935, in Rowan County to the late Ephriam Pinkney Ratledge and Nellie Propst Ratledge. Mr. Ratledge was a 1953 graduate of Woodleaf High School, where he served as the Senior Class President. He retired from Ingersoll-Rand in Davidson and was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Mooresville. Fil loved sports and would willingly share his opinion with you about the teams he supported and, of course, politics and Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, John Fillmore Ratledge II. He is survived by his wife, Fay Nell Archie Ratledge; stepchildren Billy Watson and wife Jean of Beech Mountain, Sandy Austin and husband Jim of Mt. Ulla; sisters Ann Spry of Cooleemee, LaNelle Nolley of Shelby; brother Arthur Ratledge and wife Margaret of Woodleaf; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements: Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 9 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Rev. J. David Hill, PhD officiating. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2:30 p.m. in the church life center. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 454 Fieldstone Road, Mooresville, NC 28115 and/or Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
