Neil Alan Madden

SALISBURY - Neil Alan Madden, 65, of Salisbury, passed away on June 5, 2013 at Carolina's Medical Center Main in Charlotte.

Neil was born on June 6, 1947 in Stoddard County, Mo., son of the late Leoland "Chick" and Helen Smock Madden. He was a 1966 graduate of East Rowan High School. Neil is a Veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam.

Neil worked for and retired from the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center, working in the Engineering Department as a plumber. He was a member of Trading Ford Baptist Church, VFW Post 3006 of Salisbury, the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion, the 40 & 8 Auxiliary, and the Spencer Moose Lodge.

He was a loving husband and father who had many friends. He did so much for so many, and will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, honesty, and great sense of humor. Neil will truly be missed by all the people whose lives he touched.

Those left to cherish his memory include Neil's wife of over 40 years, Barbara "Bobbie" Thomason Madden who he married on Sept. 30, 1972; son, Gregory Madden and wife Shannon of Salisbury; daughter, Beth Madden of Salisbury; brothers, Keith Madden of Huntersville and Owen Madden and wife Tonya of Rockwell; sisters, Vida Myers of Salisbury, Marjorie Emery of Salisbury and Althea "Fizz" Leopold and husband Guy; grandchildren, Daisy Lemke of the home, Isabell Lemke, Noah Lisk, Devin Madden, Caden Madden, Jacob Oliver, Cheyenne Barber and Cody Barber all of Salisbury.

Service: The funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Trading Ford Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Mike Motley, Pastor. Mr. Madden will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Salisbury National Cemetery (Statesville Blvd.) at 1 p.m. with Military Graveside Rites provided by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and the National Guard. The Patriot Guard will be assisting with services.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Powles Funeral Home on Monday, June 10th from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials: May be made to Trading Ford Baptist Church Building Fund 3600 Long Ferry Road Salisbury NC 28146.
