Ralph Eudy Obituary

Ralph Lee Eudy “Butch”, 76 passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 25, 2025, on the same farm he grew up on in Rockwell, NC.

He was born November 3, 1948, in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Ralph Franklin Eudy and Margaret Barnhardt Eudy. He was a 1969 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Gold Hill. Ralph began working at an early age, helping his dad at the sawmill and on the family's dairy farm, which instilled in him a strong work ethic. He worked at the Buck Steam Plant for Duke Power, Oakwood Homes in Rockwell. He would later work and retire after 25 years from the City Of Concord Electric Systems working as the crew leader on his truck and a certified arborist. After Hurricane Hugo he started his own business, Eudy's Tree Service, which he continued to operate up until his death.

Hard work was something Ralph believed in, he loved to farm and work in his garden, which he was very proud of every year. He could always grow just about anything. Often times when you called him, he would answer the phone while on his tractor in the field, if he wasn't in the field you could find him hunting or fishing, down at the barn feeding his cows or checking on his cooter baskets. Ralph always made his daily rounds to check on all his buddies, he loved to tell stories and show pictures of his childhood and growing up. Wherever he went his generous and giving heart was always on display. He loved giving away his vegetables from his garden, eggs or Brunswick stew that he would make yearly. When he knew others were in need he would help in anyway he could, whether that was simply a visit, delivering firewood or even getting cats out of trees with his tree truck, you could always find him doing something, sun up to sun down. He always found joy in cooking for others, whether it be fish fries or roasting his chickens, rabbits and squirrels by the fire. Ralph's circle of friends was far and wide, he made many of those friends on the yearly family fishing trip to Kure Beach; while his family would be fishing he would cast the line, leave it, and go walking up and down the beach, meeting others and making connections.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Hopkins Eudy, whom he married in 1973; sisters Betty Jane Hill (Oliver) and Mary “Boots” Harwood.

Ralph loved life and it was tragically taken too soon. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Alan Eudy of Rockwell; daughter, Melissa Eudy Hoggard (Chad) of Rockwell; granddaughters, Amber Long (Dallas) and Autumn Hoggard; great grandson, Easton Long; one great grandchild on the way; sisters, Alice “Tom” Shue (John) and Evelyn Ferguson (Gerald); brother, Fred Eudy (Susan); and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 12:30 PM until 2:30 PM on Saturday, August 9, in the church hut of St. Stephens Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 9, in the sanctuary of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Scott Swix officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church, 4401 St. Stephens Church Road, Gold Hill, NC 28071.

To all of the family of Ralph,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Ralph would always stop and visit with Lonnie and me when we lived in Rockwell. He was a good friend. He had a very kind heart. Lonnie had known Ralph for a very long time and I was glad to have met him. I would love to listen about stories Ralph and Lonnie through the years. Ralph was one of a kind and it was a very same that his life was taken. But he´s in a better place. He´s with his Lord and Savior. He will be surely missed until we meet him again in Heaven. We love you Ralph. May God be with his family to help you through this difficult time and give you peace. Love, Lonnie and Rena Brown

Alan and Melissa,
Ralph has cut so many trees for me during my career that there´s no way I could count them. We became great friends as a result of the trees I needed to have cut and his ability to do the job. Such a needless tragedy the way you lost your father. I went to school with Shirley so early in my career I had Insurance with your Mother and Dad.
Both of them were the cream of the crop and they´ve done a great job raising you two. Thank God for Jesus and the fact that both Ralph and Shirley are in heaven today and you´ll see them again.
Please know that Jane and I are praying for both of you during this time. May you find comfort in the peace that only comes from the good Lord.
