Richard Henry Boutilier, 65, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at Novant Health Rowan Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 26, 1953 in Rowan County, to the late Foster Leon Boutilier and Virginia Belle Harris Boutilier. He attended the Salisbury school system before entering the U.S. Army. Returning home, he attended Rowan Technical College obtaining two associate degrees. He was employed by the Salisbury Fire Department, CAM Ambulance Service and Rowan County Emergency Medical Service. He was one of the founders of the volunteer Rowan County Medical Responders program. In retirement he was a Rowan-Salisbury school bus driver for over a decade. He loved camping, hiking and began the Appalachian Trail before his health declined. Always considering himself as a patriot, he lived life joyfully. Mr. Boutilier attended First United Methodist Church of Landis. Surviving is his wife, Linda Beck Boutilier of Salisbury; son, John Boutilier and wife Shantez of Statesville; daughter, Christy Saunders and husband John C. of Olin; brothers, Warren Boutilier and wife Susie of Baltimore, Md., and David Boutilier and wife Lynne of Fleetwood; and grandchildren: Delilah Rayne Boutilier, John Marshall Saunders, Natasha Adale Boutilier and Thomas Marley Saunders. Visitation and Service: The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Summersett Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., in Summersett Memorial Chapel, conducted by Rev. Adam Love, with burial following at the U.S. National Cemetery, Statesville Blvd location with military honors conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.
