Richard Starrett Obituary

Richard William Starrett, 72, of Salisbury, NC, passed away on January 7, 2023. He was born in Erie, PA on May 1, 1950, to Ina March Starrett and William Jesse Starrett. Richard was a 1968 graduate of West Hazelton High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature from St. Francis College (now the University of New England) in 1972. Alongside his wife (m. February 24, 1979), Richard relocated to North Carolina in 1981. He and his wife successfully owned and operated Outdoor Power Equipment in Salisbury, NC from 1987 until 2020 when they both officially retired. Richard held tremendous pride in being a hands-on Dad. He was an exceptional cook, loved a friendly round of golf, and had a particular love for German Shepherd Dogs. He thoroughly enjoyed all of his friends at The Revival at the Crescent Golf Course, and was very meticulous in mowing the greens, a job he held for the last several years. In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by Carleen Lillian Marchetti. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Patricia “Trish” Smith Starrett of Salisbury; his son, Ryan Starrett (Kelli) of Salisbury; his daughter, Lindsay Starrett Triplett (Josh) of Salisbury; his three beloved grandsons, Benjamin Starrett, Deacon Triplett and Calvin Starrett; and his Sister, Carol Starrett Evans of Lititz, PA. Service: A service to celebrate his life will be held at 5 p.m. on January 21, 2023 in the Faith Center at St. John's Lutheran Church (200 W. Innes St. Salisbury, NC). Pastor James Demmel will preside over the funeral. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Gift of Play Fundraiser at St. John's Lutheran Church. It would greatly honor Richard's memory to contribute to the new playground his grandsons will enjoy for years to come. Checks can be made out to St. John's Lutheran Church with “Richard Starrett/Gift of Play” in the memo line and mailed to 200 W. Innes St. Salisbury, NC 28144 with Attention to Mark Bias. The family would like to extend special gratitude to his physicians and team at Rowan Diagnostic Clinic, Lyerly Funeral Home, and everyone at St. John's Lutheran Church for their love, prayers and support. Lyerly Funeral Home is serving the Starrett family. Online condolences may be made at www.lyerlyfuneralhome.com.
