William A. "Bill" Carter

1942 - 2024

William A. “Bill” Carter, age 82, passed away Sunday, July 7, after declining health and a recent fall.

Bill was born April 26, 1942 in Asheboro, NC. After graduating from Asheboro High in 1960 he completed his bachelor degree in civil engineering at NCSU in 1964. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and cherished his life long relationship with his brothers. After graduating the young army lieutenant met his wife Gail in Texas where he was stationed at Ft Hood. He completed his service and following a move to Houston the couple finally came back to his home state. He worked for Blythe Brothers Construction Company in Charlotte for several years then moved to Salisbury where he worked for Wilson Construction Company before starting his own company, Mustang Enterprise, in 1987. In 2007 he and his partner sold the company and the next year he and a few “old guys” helped get the new Infrastructure division of D H Griffin Companies going. Bill loved this new challenge and retired in 2019 when he began to have serious health issues. He was a lifetime waterfowl hunter and sports enthusiast. He loved music concerts and his weekly poker games with his buddies. And most of all he loved his family.

Bill is survived by his wife Gail, sons Ben and wife Amy, Doug and wife Debbie, and daughter Stacey. He and Gail are blessed with 6 grandchildren, Joe, Schuyler, Jared, Dylan, Alayna and Jase.

A celebration of life will be held at Trinity Oaks Senior Living Center, 728 Klumac Road, Salisbury, July 20 at 2:00. Reverend Eric Faust will officiate assisted by campus chaplain Jill King. The family will host a reception following.
