William Glenn Smiley Graham

Mr. William Glenn (Smiley) Graham, 91, of Salisbury, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at his residence. He was born July 26, 1925 in Rowan County, to the late Mary Belle Carscadon and James Espie Graham. Mr. Graham attended Rowan County Schools. He then served in the 75th Infantry Division and later in the Aircraft Unit of the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Graham worked at NC Finishing Company for 42 years as an inspector and retired in 1989. In addition to his lifelong love of farming, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Graham was a member of South River Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James and Johnny Graham; his sisters Alma Christie, Edith Cranfield, Helen Safrit, Azile Bogle and Margie Bogle; one great grand- daughter and one step-great-grandson. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Betty Jane Wrights Graham; son, William Ray Graham (Dottie) of Mocksville; and daughters, Judy Hutchinson (Walt) of Rockwell, Linda Morton (Tim) of Rockwell and Cathy Nichols (Joe) of Salisbury. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one grea-great-grandchild; and five step-great-great-grandchildren. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 at Summersett Funeral Home. Service: A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 at Summersett Memorial Chapel with Mr. Tommy Graham and Mr. Jim Stone officiating. Interment will follow at South River Church of Christ. Memorials: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
