Candice Downing Obituary

Candice R Downing

1979-2021

Salt Lake City, Utah—Candice Rebecca Downing was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 15, 1979. Sadly, following a long battle with addiction, she left us on Tuesday August 31, 2021. The bastard won. In spite of her battles, Candice was a genuinely sweet person with a beautiful smile and a willingness to share. Her generosity through the Donor Program has given two people another opportunity to live their lives to the fullest.

Candice graduated from Brighton High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from the University of Phoenix. She always had a job, starting with retail sales while still in high school. After graduating, Candice obtained a sales position with Clarke American Checks Inc. Work took her on adventures to San Antonio, Tx and Eugene, Or and, as was her nature, she maximized and enjoyed those experiences. Candice eventually landed in the employment industry and spent many years as a recruiter for national and local companies.

In addition to her love of her career, Candice loved U of U Football, music, and the outdoors. She loved dancing, hiking, snowshoeing, tubing, and wakeboarding with the friends in her life and was almost always the one with the biggest smile on her face and a camera at the ready. She loved to laugh, loved Saturday Night Live, and Christmas movies.

Candice is survived by the light of her life and her proudest accomplishment, Ariyana Erin Southwick. Through this beautiful, sweet, and sensitive young lady, Candice will live on. She is also survived by parents Bob and Kathi Downing, Rhondalyn Kane, and bonus parents Park and Kim Dockstader; sister and best friend Erin Bandley (Justin), nieces Bella and Bonnie; Grandmother Katie Mays (Granny); bonus siblings Hillary Henderson Hinds (Carson), Joshua Ewing (Kallie, Micaela, Taylor), Brad Townley, Amanda Pope, and Bailey Pope (Mackenzie English); aunts and uncles Melanie Davis (Scott), Jennifer Ford, Douglas Kane (Tracy), Kandy Kane Casstevens (Robert), Aaron Kane (Rhea Elk), Kevin Kane (Heidi), James Cherry, Michelle Cherry Baeza (Boni), and Rachelle Cherry.

Candice was a bright light, a force to be reckoned with, and a sensitive soul. She was a mother, a daughter, a sister, a granddaughter, a niece, and a friend to everyone. She left us far too soon, and the void cannot be filled. If you, or anyone you know, is struggling with alcohol or addiction, please reach out.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Candice's honor on Sunday, September 5 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Big Bear Park (930 E Onyx Ln, White City, UT 84094). Please bring a happy memory or fun story to share. Please bring a mask.
