Chon Kandaris Obituary

11/28/1939 ~ 07/10/2012
PRICE, UT-Born Conception Mathilde Williams y Martinez on November 28, 1939 in Youngsville, New Mexico. Chon was the youngest of six children born to Ben Williams and Iginia Martinez. The family moved to Ephraim, Utah in 1944 where she attended schools in Ephraim and Manti, graduating from Manti High School in 1957.
Chon was Miss Ephraim 1957-58, the first year judges made the decision instead of penny-a-vote.
She met and married John H. Lowry in 1958 and together they had one child, Cynthia (Cindy) Lowry. They later divorced.
Chon traveled the United States selling real estate and made friends wherever she went. She had many careers through the years including legal secretary, real estate investigator for the State of Utah, a paralegal for Utah Legal Services, and finally founding Help Advocates in Price, Utah, working as a representative for Social Security Disability claimants. The latter was the job she enjoyed most as she loved being able to help those less fortunate than herself.
When she moved to Price, Chon met and later married John P. Kandaris on October 2, 1982. They shared the last nearly 30 years together enjoying friends, going places, and having fun.
Chon endured many health problems over the last several years, surviving each one and trying to gain strength for the next challenge. She seemed to have almost boundless determination, but finally succumbed on July 10, 2012 in Price, Utah at the age of 72.
Chon is survived by her loving and devoted husband, John P. Kandaris, daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) and Jay Martin of Price; sons, John Pete Kandaris of Talent, Oregon, Nick and Stephanie Kandaris of West Jordan, Utah, Rob Kandaris of Kearns, Utah; daughter, Julie and Craig Morgan of Taylorsville, Utah; brother, Fred and Pat Williams of Salt Lake City; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Chon was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Viola Sorensen, Lela Workman, brother, Joe Max Williams; infant sister, Rose; grandson, Jarred Andreason and several nieces.
Funeral service, Saturday, July 14, 2012, 10:00 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) Price. Family will be at Mitchell's Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
