Darlene Osguthorpe Obituary

Darlene Jeanette Higley Osguthorpe

1929-2024

Salt Lake city, UT-Darlene Jeanette Higley Osguthorpe passed on October 11, 2024. Born on August 11, 1929 to Frank and Tolvhild (Youngberg) Higley in Ogden, Utah. Married E.B.(Erwin) Osguthorpe on November 30, 1950 in SLC, later sealed in LDS temple. Resided in Emigration Canyon for 68+ years and loved looking out her kitchen window at the beautiful mountains. In the last years she sat on her porch and would say: "no one lives in a more wonderful spot than I do."

Darlene enjoyed gardening, quilting, embroidering, crocheting and going to her ranch. She was very talented in wallpapering and helping people to learn the craft. Darlene felt her home was not beautiful without a wall or two being papered and honestly, most rooms are decorated with wallpaper. She worked for Mountain Bell Phone Company for over 35 years and retired in her late 50's.

Darlene was a very strong positive woman and lived her life with integrity, compassion, and a pleasant, encouraging attitude. She was a "can do" person, always devoted and involved with her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and family. She was affectionately known as Nan, whether you were related or not and known as an incredible caregiver to her family, "especially to her mom, dad and EB in their late years."

Survived by her children: Christy Grundfossen, Alan (Vicki), Gayelee Thompson (Paul), Rick (Meg), 14 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings: Glen, Ken, Tom, Lee, Carl Higley and Lanae Jackson.

A viewing and services for family and friends will be held Thursday October 17th from 1:00 to 2:30 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. Per her request, interment and graveside services to follow at Elysian Burial Garden, 1075 E 4580 S, Salt Lake City at 3:00.

A special thank you to Brit (granddaughter) for her loving exceptional care and guidance. Also, Tina (Hospice RN) for her kind and supportive care.

There is definitely joy in heaven with the welcoming home of Darlene. She was one the highlights of our earthly reunions for me. I loved her sweet and smiling demeaner. She made me fill good. She is special! and she will be missed....
