Darlene Snow Obituary

Darlene Jensen Snow
1927 ~ 2020
Darlene Jensen Snow left this mortal life to join her beloved spouse, Dean Brimhall Snow, on July 31, 2020, their 74th wedding anniversary. She was the mother of Joyce (Peter) Maughan, Dean Jackson (Peggy) Snow, Janet (James) Bacciocco, Denise (Harry) Segura, Shelly (Wayne) Reichmann; grandmother of 25, great-grandmother of 67, and great-great-grandmother of 1. Darlene was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 21, 1927 to Nephi and Myrtle Fenton Jensen. She was the third of eight children and the oldest living child as her two older siblings died before she was born.
She grew up in Salt Lake City, graduated from East High in 1945, and briefly attended BYU. She met her future husband there, a handsome former soldier, who posed as her home teacher in order to ask for a date. They were married and sealed July 31, 1946 in the St. George Temple by his father who was the temple president. Their early married life was interrupted when Dean served in the Korean War, leaving Darlene with two small children at home. After he returned home from Korea, they added three more children to their family. Darlene stayed at home caring for their children when they were young. When they were older, she got a job at Z.C.M.I.
She served in a number of callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over her lifetime including Relief Society president three times. She volunteered for 7 years as a guide on Temple Square. In retirement, Darlene and Dean served a full-time Family History mission in the New York/New York Mission and they served 25 years in the Baptistry of the Jordan River Temple and the Draper Temple.
Darlene was a talented china painter. She enjoyed making porcelain dolls and taught classes in her home. She loved to sew gifts for her grandchildren. She was an independent woman and was able to live in her home until the very end with the assistance of her children, other family members who lived with her, and the excellent hospice care she received.
Darlene's greatest achievement in this life was as the Matriarch of her large family, who revered her as their stylish, hardworking, loving, and faithful wife, mother, mother-in law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Funeral services for family only will be held Saturday, August 8 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sandy Utah East Stake Center Chapel, 9636 South 1700 East in Sandy, Utah. A viewing for all family and friends will precede these services from 9:00 to 10:30. Family and friends are invited to sign an online guestbook at www.LARKINMORTUARY.com.

Darlene was a most gracious lady and loyal and loving daughter of her Heavenly Father. She and Dean were stalwarts in the Sandy Utah East Stake and in her home Ward. Talented and tender, she will be forever in our hearts. Geoffrey and Dolly Baker.

A time that we all at once feared would come, dreaded that it would come, hoped it would come and now celebrate that it has finally come. To know Darlene and Dean was to love them. We moved into the same ward as the Snow's in Sandy about the same time. It didn't take long to discover that we had commonality with the Salt Lake 33rd Ward were they were also legendary. Many a common friend with them we had. When as a young buck I was called to serve as a High Priest Group Leader, I told the Stake President that while I was a High Priest I had actually never attended a High Priest Group meeting; bishopric and stake presidency meetings had prevented such. The Stake President kindly counseled me to find the three most seasoned High Priests to serve with me - to train me. I was obedient; I asked Dean Snow, Sam Shimmens and Dale Draney to be my 1st, 2nd Assistants and secretary respectively. I learned a ton just watching them. Oh how I miss those great men! Each from the greatest generation for sure.
Somewhere in the time that Darlene was not a Relief Society president (seldom) she was a beloved Primary teacher. A few of our children had the privilege of having her for a season. They all loved her, but there was a special bond that formed between Darlene and our youngest son Erik. She was very mindful of him for years after he left the ward and was raising his own family. He still tenderly uses the nativity parts she gave him in his own family Christmas decorations and teachings. Just as she loved him, he even more so loved her - and Dean. Imaging his delight when he found that Dean was his Home Teaching companion for a time and then his even greater delight when he was assigned to be their home teacher.
Our family, like countless others, are tenderly remembering the sacred lessons we heard, observed and experienced from Dean and Darlene. Individually they were incredible; together they are spectacular and most worthy of emulation. We love them and through them their extended family. We send our love and joyful smiles to all the Snow posterity. Truly it can be said they you all were born of goodly parents. Now, go thou and do likewise! We love you Dean and Darlene - til we meet again!!

Darlene was the best neighbor ever and I will miss her terribly. She was so good to my family and treated us like her own. She was so talented and shared many porcelain figurines, painted porcelain, and quilts with us. We will treasure those forever. Darlene was always up for a visit and I would usually stay a couple of hours each time laughing and talking with her. She taught me how to play solitaire during this pandemic and would call often to have me go over to her house so she could watch me play to make sure I knew what I was doing. Sending much love and prayers to her family during this difficult time. Until we meet again...... I will hold you close to my heart forever dear friend. Love you Darlene!! ❤

Condolences to all the family from Geoff and Dolly Baker. We have lived i our neighborhood for 43 years and have loved Dean and Darlene almost that long. She was our first RS President and I had the honor of stepping over the threshold of her home for many years as her Visiting Teacher and felt I got to know her children and grandchildren through the stories she shared with us or what she was making or doing for them, quilts. ceramics, overnight stays etc. so gracious , so beautiful, so talented and so giving. I have things in my curio cabinet that she gave over the years. Thanks Darlene for the sweet memories. With much love Arohanui

Darlene was such a sweetheart. When we first moved into the neighborhood, she was the Relief Society President of our ward. I will always be grateful for the kindness and caring she extended to our very busy young family with special needs. She was truly an angel in our life. We loved Darlene!
