1939-2025/The heart of our family
Salt Lake City, Ut-David "Dave" Ramos Sr., born January 29, 1939 in Gallina, NM, passed away on November 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Dave was a proud U.S. Army veteran, an elite athlete, and a former pro boxer. He dedicated much of his life to mentoring youth and was active in the Civil Rights movement in Salt Lake City during the 1960s and 70s, always standing up for those who needed a voice.
Known as "Poppy," he was admired for his strength, humor, and generous spirit. His belief in education and his commitment to helping minority youth left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Dave is survived by his wife, Donna Martinez Ramos; his children David Mario Ramos (Cindy), Gina Ramos Trujillo, Louise Ramos Cavazos (Ozzie), and Jody Elise Ramos DeJonge (Shaun Moffitt), sister Dorothy Ramos Guzman ( Willie) and brother Ted Ramos (Charlene).
He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who adored him.
Celebration of Life will be held Monday, December 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Canyons Church, 7000 South 1700 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Luncheon will follow.
