Dawna Barton Obituary

Dawna Wagstaff Barton

1931-2022

Holladay, UT—Dawna Wagstaff Barton was born on March 4, 1931 to Arthur John Wagstaff, Jr. and Bessie Wilna Greene, in Moab Utah. She passed away from an infection that resulted from an injured leg, at St. Marks Hospital, in SLC, on March 18th, 2022. She was surrounded by most of her family, including her grandchildren. She was 91 years old.

Dawna was an accomplished, artist, a creative, and an alchemist. She wasn't just a painter, but one who saw the world a little differently. And, she was truly one who knew how to transform things for the better. From humble beginnings, she created a magical life, full of beauty, creativity, and miracles.

Dawna is a well known Utah artist whose paintings and prints were sold, worldwide, through Portfolio Graphics. Her art has blessed and uplifted the lives of so many, bringing forth light and beauty into an often dreary world. Perhaps the biggest factor in her success, was the pure passion she had for painting. It was a "true love", and she painted, almost daily, until well into her 80's.

She met her husband, David C. Barton at a ward picnic in Casper Wyoming, where he was serving a mission for the LDS church. It was love at first sight. They were married in the SLC Temple on June 30th, 1953. The couple remained faithful members of the church, and were blessed and sustained by their deep love of the Lord.

Her generosity of spirit cannot go unmentioned. She was never one to say no, but was always willing and available to help in whatever way she could, especially with her time.

Deeply loved and cherished by so many, it is perhaps, because she had a way of making each person she loved feel seen, heard, valued, and special. She saw the best in each of us, and the potential. We are deeply saddened to have lost her, but grateful that she is no longer suffering and in pain. We find peace and joy In knowing that she is reunited with all our beloved family and friends who have previously passed. We will miss her immensely.

Dawna was predeceased by her granddaughter, Sophie Rose Barton, and her brother, Arthur Reed Wagstaff, and sister, Karen Wagstaff Heffernan.

She is survived by her husband David Clair Barton, and her children, Brooke Ann Wardrop, Jill Lynn Barton, Linn Joan Done, David Kent Barton, and their 14 grandchildren and 22 great- grandchildren, as well as sisters, Helen Paul and Wilna Holt.

Services will be held at the LDS Meetinghouse at 4650 South Naniloa Drive, Holladay, Utah.

Viewing: Thursday, March 24 from 6:00 - 7:30 PM and Friday 10:30 - 11:45 AM Funeral Service: Friday at 12:00 Noon. Zoom link: memorialutah.com

My condolences to the family. I was such a fan of Dawna´s art. I have one of her pieces in my dining room and I was just reading online where I could get more of her artwork and just read of her passing this year. She will live on in the beauty of all of her artwork that she shared with the world.

Dear Family,

We are just learning of Dawna's passing. We are heartbroken and would have been to the viewing and funeral had we known. Pat (mom) sends her love and is wishing she would have been able to tell her how much she loves her. She sends love to Wilna and Helen and the entire family.

The talent, friendship, and legacy of Dawna are cherished. Dad always spoke so highly of all of you and loved you all very very much. He had fond memories of childhood with all of his cousins.

Mom says she doesn't know how to say goodbye to such a dear friend.

David, Brooke, Jill, Linn, and Kent-
I'm so sorry to hear of Dawna's passing. I know my mom really enjoyed talking to her on the phone on occasion. She was such a sweet person. Many homes are graced with her beautiful artwork so her legacy will live on for so many of us. I'm sorry I won't be there to attend the services in person. Thinking of you all.

So sad to hear of her passing. Dawna was lovely lady. I worked for her years ago framing her prints and water colors, and afterword many years in their yard. She was always positive caring and a delight to work for. I feel so lucky to have an original water color that hangs in our kitchen nook. She will be missed by many.
