Dennis Yeates Obituary

1944 ~ 2014
Dennis Monson Yeates was born in Logan, UT, on November 25, 1944, the fifth child of Richard Owen Yeates and Evalyn Monson Yeates. He died August 24, 2014.
Dennis was active in the LDS Church: He served in the Northern California Mission from 1964 to 1966, including leadership positions for nineteen months, and as an Elders Quorum president, Elders Quorum and High Priests group instructor, Ward Financial Clerk, Sunday School teacher, and in many musical callings. He found joy in serving families as a home teacher and in leading the singles family home evening group for Centerville-Farmington.
Developing diabetes at age 14, Dennis had a passion for living life to its fullest, and music was always at the top of his list. Family vacations included four-part harmony in the car, and Dennis participated in musical theater in high school, college, and later in life. In the 1960s, he toured the United States and abroad, on a USO tour, as a member of The Youngtimers. Annual, and sometimes more frequent, fishing trips to Yellowstone and Montana have always been part of the Yeates boys' life, and Dennis was thankful to brother Lynn for continuing this tradition to this day.
Dennis graduated from Logan High in 1963 and from USU in 1969, with a degree in economics. After a short musical career, Dennis began a 30 year career in banking. He started with Walker Bank, spent four years with Cache Valley Bank, which his family helped found, and 20 years with Key Bank, doing lending, branch administration, and trust administration. He was also active in the Logan Jaycees, Logan Kiwanis Club, and Centerville Rotary Club, and served three times as president of his home owners association. Dennis loved the Boy Scouts, attending National Jamborees in 1957 and 1960, and was awarded for his lifelong service to scouting. He collected memorabilia for over 50 years.
Dennis is survived by his son, Owen (Celeste), and four grandchildren, Hyrum, Claire, Joseph, and Evelyn. He is also survived by his brother Richard Lynn and his sister Sheryl Spriet. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James Owen and Clayne, and sister Carole.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Centerville Park Ward (1125 N. 400 W.). Friends and family will gather Thursday, August 28 at Russon Bros. Mortuary (295 N. Main St., Bountiful), 6-8 p.m., and Friday, 9:30-10:30 prior to services at the church. Interment Logan City Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Online guest book at www.russonmortuary.com.

To Owen Yeates and family --

We both worked with your Dad at Walker Bank. Along with Dennis, we had lots of fun "back in the day." We are thinking of you at this tough time.

Dennis was a great friend! I will miss him.

I am honored that he would ask me to be part of the service, but unfortunately or lucky I am still farming and payday only comes once a year and I am not even half done,or I would be there. I met Dennis through Sigma Nu at USU and he was one you could count on as friend and to be true to his religion. I knew him for some time before I knew he had diabetes but he never complained about it or acted like a victim or let it slow him down. He tried to introduce this farm boy to golf. He gathered up some clubs and balls and took me golfing, I was so bad he never ask me again, the first and last time golfing. I will miss the phone calls and visits when I go to Utah.He is still a good friend. Craig Hubbard, Bonners Ferry Idaho

Dennis was my first missionary companion in the Northern California Mission and had a profound affect on my life. Quickly he taught me the value of working hard and the blessings of obedience. During our time together we were fortunate to see many great saints come into the waters of baptism often leading the mission in convert baptisms. Our respect and friendship has continued over the yrs. I will always be indebted for the great lessons I learned as we served together; for those principles secured my commitment to the gospel.
My wife and I regret that we are not able to attend the funeral as we are serving in the Australia Brisbane Mission. Our love, sympathy and prayers are with his family.

Dennis was a friend and neighbor when we were young pups in Logan, who, although I was 2 years his junior, would always stand up for me or give me a helping hand when I needed it. Later in life we became Email buddies. I will miss the missives, but the spirit of his helpful soul will always live on. I offer my deepest and most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

It was my privilege and pleasure to be associated with Dennis through the world of theatre. I always admired him for his kindness and gentle demeanor. With all the physical challenges he faced I never experienced him in anything but a cheerful attitude and spirit. He ALWAYS gave his absolute best even under some very tough circumstances. Rest in peace my friend. You are a great inspiration to many.

My dear sweet Dennis: May you rest in peace and finally find the love of your life on the other side. You helped me so much while you were here. I felt you were a true friend to me the many times you gave me expert financial advise. You saved me from some really bad decision making. Even though we were not meant to be a couple, you taught me many things in friendship. Those social gatherings were such a delight as I saw many people gather around you with admiration. How I admired your many accomplishments in spite of an illness your mortal body carried with it. God bless you.

Dennis and I were close friends. I nominated him for the Silver Beaver Award that he so deserved. We had lunch together at least once a month when he came to Sandy, Utah to have his hair cut. We both collected scouting items and shared what we found with each other. He was a very dedicated man to his family, scouting and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was a privilege to know him.

Dennis was a friend to me when we both worked at Walker Bank many years ago. I remember palling around with him on many occasions, one time going to a USU and BYU football game with his parents. While we lost track of each other over the years, when our paths crossed I was always welcomed with a warm greeting. He was a good man.
