Ed Scott Obituary

1922 ~ 2014
On July 12, 2014, Ed Scott passed away peacefully in his home in Rancho Mirage, CA, surrounded by loved ones just as the sun was setting in the western sky.
Ed was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Leonard and Allie Scott in July, 1922. He is survived by his gracious and lovely wife Ann Scott and her three sons, Dean (wife Shannon), Scott (wife Lena) and Bruce (wife Lyn). He is also survived by his three natural children (born to Phyllis Scott--deceased) Steve, Martha (husband John) and Eddie (wife Kimmie)…together with 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
If you knew Ed Scott, you were lucky to be around one of the cleverest, funny, intelligent and compassionate people on earth. Ed Scott was a lover of life, people and animals and was most notably good at everything he did-especially sports.
Ed was a 5-sport letter athlete in high school and a 4-sport letterman in college. He went on to play professional basketball in the American Basketball League and pitched professional softball while simultaneously teaching college courses in Kansas. He held many elected student body offices and was a navy athletic instructor during WWII. Ed was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a captain in the Army Finance Corp. In his later years, he transformed his baseball swing into being a scratch golfer and he won numerous tournaments. Although he pulled off the amazing feat of four hole-in-one shots during his golf career, his proudest golf achievement was that of back-to-back eagles! Can any PGA player make that claim?
Ed was a self-employed business man for the majority of his adult life, retiring in 1987. Ed served two years in the Salt Lake Temple baptistery and in 1988, Ann and Ed served an LDS mission in Hong Kong. Upon their return, they enjoyed homes in both Salt Lake and Rancho Mirage, CA.
In parting, Ed would have all to know that he is alive with God, as he believes we all are and that joy is awaiting all of us in future togetherness.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 27 at the home of Eddie Scott: 3433 East Buck Circle, Cottonwood Heights. 801-455-8558. Open house visit will be from 5-7pm. Casual dress-no gifts.

Ed was one of the most honest, educated and giving man I have had the pleasure of knowing. My husband Scott Wilson " Ann Scott's middle son" loved this old man dearly and craved his knowledge of life and it's experiences in every conversation he had with old Wobbly. The world has lost a great mind, educator and person with his passing. God speed old Wobbly.
