Your beautiful smile and friendly wave as I would come & go from my home is very much missed. I hope you're having a glass of red wine today - for Valentines, my friend.

My mom Maxinne Berry and Eileen, along with Cathy Collins, Esther Landa (obm) and Kitty Kaplan (obm) were the some of the zeitgeists who brought NCJW to its heights of Tikun Olam and what it meant to be a Jewish woman in Utah. Her accent unmistakable, her writing spot on, her artistic vibe and caring warm personality are what I will remember most of her. When my husband passed suddenly and at a young age, she made a point to come visit me and bring me this amazing negative photo art she had done of my bridal photo. I will always cherish it. May her family including her beloved Randy, take comfort in their memories of her, the good she did for all and the incredible histories she wrote. I may not have spoken to her recently, but I am saddened to think she is gone and I can´t catch up or hear her wonderful funny stories. May her life teach us all what it means to be kind and part of a community.

I delivered mail to Eileen for years. She was always so nice and welcoming. I loved her humor. I actually thought about her the other day and thought I should go back up to my route and see if she was still there. My sister gave me a book to read about Auerbach´s, our favorite store back in the day, and when I saw that she had written it, I was thrilled. My condolences to the family. Bless you all.

Eileen was such a passionate advocate for the causes she believed in, and that passion was contagious. She really took me under her wing at NCJW, and we shared many wonderful memories doing service projects throughout the year. She was also humble about her many outstanding accomplishments, and can be credited for enlightening many in the state about its rich history beyond the dominant religion. She will be so sorely missed but never forgotten.

Eileen was so enjoyable to meet and share stories of Utah, Politics, and historical events and sites -- She was a great story teller -- and such a pleasant person to get to know over a few lunch conversations -- Her work will be missed

Eileen will be sorely missed by the entire community. She personified the very best in a community activist. I´ll always remember the countless hours she and Kitty and so many others devoted to SSKO and many other needed and worthy causes. May she rest in peace.

Eileen and I worked together in the 1980s and early 1990s on a long, statewide, oral history project that culminated in a book published as part of the 1996 Utah State Centennial. "Missing Stories: An Oral History of Ethnic and Minority Groups in Utah," published by the University of Utah Press in 1995, was a kind of baptismal for both of us, introducing us to the world of publishing and the identity of being/becoming writers. It was something both of us valued and desired deeply. Eileen was excellent to work with. She was efficient, diligent, and effective. In our long editing process, she was deft and accomplished at entering the interviews of people that were taped and finding, when necessary, the links between complex and fragmented stories and bringing them together as a narrative. She had a wonderfully intuitive sense for important and telling details. She would place hand-drawn stars in the margins of long interview transcripts to indicate an exciting detail. I looked forward to getting her symbolic communication. Ultimately, she realized her dream of becoming a writer; functioning and speaking in the world as a writer; and leaving us a legacy of her unique and valuable work. May Eileen Hallet Stone´s courageous and exemplary life shine brightly as a blessing for all of us.

Randy, my deepest condolences. Eileen was a unique and magnificent human being. She left many sweet gifts behind--her wonderful books, her examples of true compassion and service and her big, loving heart. I was so happy to be the recipient of her refreshing candor, her sharp wit and her good humor. She was fortunate to have you to care for her and support her! She's someone I will always remember and I will keep memories of her sincere friendship in my heart. May you have peace and comfort.

I feel so blessed to have known Eileen for a short part of her journey through life. In that short time I found a talented, gifted and courageous woman. It was evident from the too few times I saw Eileen, that she was an important person in many people´s lives. I feel fortunate for being one of those people.

Vivian has perfectly expressed my thoughts & feelings. Not knowing how near the end was, I called on 4/24, and Randy´s tone forewarned me.
I will forever miss Eileen & her warm "Hello, doll". We became friends through Nat´l Council of Jewish Women before Daniel was born.

I´m heartbroken to learn of Eileen´s passing. Her commitment to family , friends and the community is everlasting. Many will have fond memories of their time with Eileen, be it coffee, chatting on the patio, walking or volunteering with her for the annual SSTKO. Sending deepest condolences to you Randy, and her son Daniel and family. May her memory be for a blessing.

We will surely miss Eileen's wisdom and humor at the Bookshop. Luckily her intelligence will live on through her books on our shelves.
