Errol Jacobsen Obituary

Errol L. Jacobsen (Jake)  Jake was called back home on July 8th, 2004 due to complications following heart surgery. He was surrounded by his loving family and under the care of compassionate, attentive doctors. Jake was born May 3rd, 1930 to Heber L. Jacobsen and Silva Christensen Jacobsen in Pocatello, Idaho. This avid BYU fan married the love of his life and eternal sweetheart, Ann Lenkersdorfer on December 5th, 1956 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they raised three daughters who idolize their dad and miss him so much already. With a big smile and a twinkle in his eye, Jake had an amazing life of service. He attended Brigham Young University and served in the Armed Forces. He was called to serve a Western States Mission for the LDS Church and recently served an Inner City Mission with his sweetheart. He loved and coached the young men of the Cottonwood Third Ward and called them 'his boys' and was currently serving as 1st counselor in the High Priest Group. He loved playing golf with his son-in-laws and grandson, serving them by allowing them to win once in awhile. But his favorite thing in life was spoiling his grandchildren with tickles, love and attention.  While we were not prepared to let him go, we treasure the influence this GIANT OF A MAN had on each of our lives and we look forward to being with him again one day. Jake is survived by Ann, his wife of 48 years, daughters Kelly Jo (Stuart) Nelson, Wendy (Todd) Williams and Joni (Craig Cox) Jacobsen and eleven grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Gene Jacobsen, Pocatello, Idaho and sister Glorine Anderson, Sunset, Utah. A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 11th, 2004 at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 E. 10600 So., Sandy) from 6 - 8 p.m. and from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. prior to the funeral which will be held Monday, July 12, 2004 at 12:00 noon at the Cottonwood Third Ward LDS Chapel (6300 So. 2300 E.). He will be laid to rest at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.

Ann & Kelli Jo - I was sorry to hear of your loss this past week. He will be waiting for you both on the other side when it is your turn. Like his nature on earth, he is preparing for you and others. Time will pass quickly as it has already, but the memories and good times will always be in your heart and mine. Big Hug to both of you!

Ann,

I was saddened to hear from my Dad of Jake's death. Thinking back, I have many fond memories of growing up in the Third Ward and Jake was always caring, giving, and patient with us boys. Home teaching was always a pleasure at your home and we could all learn a lesson in living life with joy and serving with love from Errol and Ann Jacobsen. May the Lord bless you and your family in this time of loss and may fond memories and the lasting influence of a great man be of comfort in the times to come.

Ann,

Our last conversation with Jake was in front your home as we took a morning walk. Jake was busy hauling branches to the curb, but still stopped to greet us with his friendly smile and a "Have a good day!" That is how we will always remember him. Thanks so much for your friendship and letting us be even a small part of Jake's life.

Ann, I was so sorry to hear the news of Jake's passing. It's hard to put into words what Jake meant to me as I was growing up. He was always there and always willing to help in everything I needed. What a great example he was for me. I am a better person for having had the chance to be a part of his life. Joy and I send our heart felt sympathies at this time. We love you all very much just as if you were our family. We will miss Jake very much, but know that he is where he needs to be now. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your extended family!
