Gary Felker Obituary
In Loving Memory
Salt Lake City, UT-Gary Ralph Felker went home to God's Glory Monday morning, November 14, 2016 at his home in Salt Lake City.
Gary was born January 27, 1944 in Roosevelt Utah the son of Ralph and LaVerna Schroeder Felker. Gary graduated from Provo High School and obtained his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Labor Economics from the University of Utah.
Gary met Kathryn Smith at the U and they were married February 3, 1968 in Salt Lake City.
Gary worked for the Utah Department of Workforce Services (formerly Job Service) for 37 years. He served in a number of positions including management analyst and economic analyst. He served on several national committees for the U. S. Department of Labor.
Gary was an active member of First Baptist Church of Salt Lake City where he served in many capacities.
He is survived by his beloved wife Kathy, his children Kenneth, North Platte Nebraska, David (Laura) West Jordan, Kate (Shain) Gillet North Salt Lake. Four Grandchildren Maria, Gavin, Shain Jr and Kayla. He is also survived by his sister Karen (Vince) Shepherd, Salt Lake City, brother-in-law Russell (Marhsa) Smith of North Bend WA and sister-in-law Sandy (Jim) Ivers of Spokane WA and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Services for Gary will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 777 S. 1300 E., Salt Lake City. Gary's family will greet friends beginning at 11 am. The service will begin at noon. Inurnment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 E. 500 S. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church Foundation or to the Huntsman Cancer Institute at donate.huntsmancancer.org or may be left at the church on Friday. Dear Kathy,
Our thoughts are with you and your family. We are in Florida so we couldn't attend the Memorial, but we want you to know how much we appreciated Gary. He was a great guy with which to work...very gentle and kind. I also enjoyed golfing with Gary. I have happy memories of Gary and we hope that you and your family will enjoy the memories of your beautiful life you had together.

I worked with Gary at DWS and Job Service. I considered him a brilliant man. I learned a lot from Gary. I appreciated his passion for his job, family and church.

Gary was a man to be admired as he was dedicated to loving and helping his fellow man. I say he was a true Christian. Talking with Gary was always a pleasure as he kept himself well informed.

Kenneth, I am so sorry to hear about your Father passing away. I remember visiting you when you lived with your parents on Douglas Street in Salt Lake City. You were a wonderful person to hang out with. I send my Sympathys and Condolences to you and your Mom and Family. May you all be comforted.

Gary gave me my first ever job as a statistical clerk working on the 5th floor of the Elks Club building on South Temple. He was so gentle and kind. My condolences to his family and friends.
