George Berg Obituary

George F. Berg, 89, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, has embarked upon a new journey. Daddy was born in Buena Vista, N.M., to Federico and Uvalda Berg, the eldest of 12 children.
Daddy was a World War II veteran. He met his sweetheart, Anna Maria Padilla, in Mora, N.M., and was married for 66 years. He will always be the love of her life. In1955, he moved his family to Salt Lake City, UT and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in1983. He was a strong, gentle, humble man who led by example. He always said, "If you're going to do a job, do it right the first time." His bright blue eyes twinkled when amused. After retirement, Daddy traveled with his family: Italy, Alaska, Caribbean, Mexico, Bahamas, but his all-time favorite had to be the Panama Canal cruise. After reading about its construction he had to see it which he did in Apr 2008. He was so amazed by the Panama Canal; it was a major topic of conversation for many months.
George is survived by his wife, Anna Maria; children, Jesse (Lynda) Berg, James (Shirley) Berg, Edna (James) Gonzales, Judy (Alberto Malutta) Berg, Georgia (Mike) Harris, Tillie (Bob) Romer, Randy (Kathy) Berg, David (Paula) Berg, and Yvette Berg; 26 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; brothers, Fred Berg, Willie (Naomi) Berg, Robert Berg and Henry Berg; sisters, May (Pete) Montoya, Minnie Caravajal, Mary (John) Vigil, Crescelda Miller, Elinor (John) Trujillo and Joann (Barry) Vollmert; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
George has been preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ramona Hernandez.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to our caregivers, Gentiva Hospice. The care you gave made Daddy's transition painless and with lots of tenderness and your help to his family was priceless.
Funeral mass is at 11:00 a.m., September 17, 2014, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2864 South, 90th West, Magna UT. Family visitation is one hour prior to service. Interment is at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

It was wonderful having George and his family visit us in Las Vegas, NV. On one occasion, Ana found him sitting on the corner of our bed, just blissfully listening to New Mexico music. We thought it was great having him feel so comfortable in our home to be there, enjoying our culture. Remembering this brings a smile to our face and warmth to our hearts. We sure miss those visits.

Our heavenly Father for giving us Primos George and Anna and their precious family to be part of our family here on earth. I know how much we will miss him, but I am so happy for my Mom Floripa and Tia Ramona to be sharing their lives in heaven now, along with Grandmas Eubalda and Precilia. I didn't know Mr Berg but I know his daughter Judy. We served together in the U.S. Air Force together. We talked about our fathers ofen. Both WW 2 vets. It was always obvious to me that Judy loved her dad with all her heart. I would like to extend my condolences to the entire Berg family. A member of the Greatest Generation, he is a true hero. I remember Stockman's in Montrose, Colorado where Tio took all of us and bought us all a hamburger with fries and a drink; something I had never done as a young child in a bar. What a kind person Tio was! I will truly miss him coming to Vegas, listening to New Mexico music with us.
