George Ryan Obituary

George T. Ryan 1917 ~ 2003  George T. Ryan, age 86, passed away December 14, 2003, in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Born March 8, 1917, in Salt Lake City to George and May Lewis Ryan. Graduated from West High School and attended LDS Business College. Married Alta Mallder in Kaysville, Utah, on October 15, 1938. George spent over 30 years with the Internal Revenue Service. Prior to his employment he served in the Army during World War II, stationed at Camp Roberts in California.  George was proud to be a west side resident, and spoke often of how much he enjoyed the friendships he made over the years. He had a wonderful gift for music, in particular the piano, which gave him much personal enjoyment and inspired his grandchildren. George also loved sporting events, especially the Utes and Jazz. His work ethic was a great example to his family. When a task seemed too big, he would offer encouragement by reminding us that "the trip of a thousand miles begins with the first step." In later years his body failed him but his mind remained sharp. George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alta. He is survived by two daughters, Joyce Avery and Marilyn Furlong, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to give a special thanks to Heidi and the staff of Evergreen Residential for the wonderful care and love they provided during the last seven months.  In lieu of flowers, we welcome your words of love and support. Arrangement under the direction of Larkin Mortuary.

Dear Joyce and Family,

What a heavy year it has been for all of you. My knowing George was primarily through family dinners, but I found he was always agreeable company and I enjoyed my chats with him. He provided a nice counter-point to Al. A sort of subtle herb to be added with the salt and pepper.

My condolences with my love, John

Dear Marilyn & Joyce:

We have missed your father, George, since he moved out of the Canyon Road Towers and we will miss him even more now that he has gone to the other side of the veil. We enjoyed being neighbors when your mother, Alta, was alive; they were a great couple.

May the Lord bless you and your family with His choicest blessings.

With love and best wishes,

Richard & Jean Turley

So long old friend. You gave me trumpet lessons in my home back in 1938-40, and became like a member of our family. You instilled in me a love of music which is as intense today as then. We remained in touch with one another by letter for many years, right up until a few weeks ago. You will be missed, but your reunion with Alta will be joyous. Be seein' you again.
