GERALD LAGANT

Gerald M. Lagant 1915 ~ 2010 Our beloved dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and friend, Gerald "Jerry" M. Lagant, age 95, passed away December 29, 2010, in Ivins, Utah. He was born April 18, 1915, in Winnett, Montana, to Claude and Averill Barber Lagant. He married Louise Stone, August 11, 1939 and after 22 years they divorced. He married Verle McMullin and they divorced. Jerry later married Ellen Wheeler, who preceded him in death. Jerry graduated high school in Ruskin, Nebraska continued on to UCLA where he graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Jerry worked for Standard Oil in N. Salt Lake until 1958. He then moved back to Ord, Nebraska where he owned and operated a Pool Hall until 1965. Jerry moved back to Salt Lake, where he worked for the State Highway Dept. until retiring in 1977, to St. George. While living in Salt Lake Jerry also worked at Mountain Dell Golf Course part-time as a morning starter. After retiring, Jerry helped his son, John open and run the Lava Hills Golf Course (now Southgate). The family would like to thank Applegate Home Care and Hospice nurses and staff; Nanette, Brian, Carol and Coleen, also friends Bob Keller, Reta Torrey, Shirley Miller, Hila McKasson and especially daughter Barbara for all their help and caring to make his final days comfortable and peaceful. He is survived by his four children born to Gerald and Louise, Geraldine "Gerri" (Wesley) Shaw, John (ReNee Thompson) Lagant, Barbara (Everett) Frazier and Michele Hills; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grand-children and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Louise, Verle and Ellen; daughter, Susan; and granddaughter, Kimberly Andreason. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 3, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George. There will be a visitation Monday, from 11:00a.m.-12:45p.m. prior to services, at the Mortuary. Interment will take place in the Tonaquint Cemetery.
