Gladys Hesleph Obituary

Gladys Iona Redd Hesleph
1924 ~ 2015
After 90 years of sharing her love, guidance, wisdom and humor with family, friends, and students, our beloved Gladys Iona Redd Hesleph returned to her Heavenly Father on March 9, 2015. She valiantly endured her physical health challenges without complaint, and lived the final months of her life on her terms, remaining active, and trusting in her Heavenly Father to provide the strength to see her through.
We will celebrate her life with a Homegoing Service at 12:00 pm on Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1090 South State Street. There will be a viewing before the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pastor France A. Davis will officiate the service. The interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 520 South. www.evans-earlymortuary.com

I remember her as a very humble and kind lady, who was passionate about her work as a counselor at Copper Hills Elementary, circa 1983. For some reason her name just popped into my head at random so I decided to do a search and found this :-)

I used to attend Calvary, and during a really hard time in my life Pastor Davis recommended that I speak to Sister Hesleph. At first I was reluctant, but eventually went.

Sister Hesleph was rough- but in a good way. She would give me weekly assignments and she held me accountable to them.

I will never forget one assignment in particular. She wanted me to go line by line through Psalms 139 and tell her what I though each line meant.

Doing this helped me to see how God see's me (something I had so forgotten at the time.) I remember just crying and crying. She showed me love, she showed me that not only did she believe that I was worth more than what I was allowing in my life, but she showed me God's love in the most loving, touching way.

I will never, ever forget her as long as I live.

Praying for your family during this hard time. She was a remarkable woman.

To the Hesleph Family,
I remember Mrs Hesleph growing up in Salt Lake City and from numerous visits home. She was the pianist, organ player at Calvary. She always had a stern look when she was watching us playing in church, but she always has a loving warm smile. My Mother, Veronika Williams and my late Grandmother, the Rev. Dr. Louise Johnson shared many loving memories of Mrs Hesleph over the years. She was a Great Woman of God, a Counselor and a Friend, a true Proverbs 31 Women. ! She will be greatly missed. May God comfort you with His Grace in your time of bereavement. She now rest in the Arms of God!

My second Mom who was and is the light of my life, she watched over me, fed me, admonished me, and most of all loved me and treated my family as her own. She loved and prayed for my sisters, my children, and grandchildren. She told my Mom when they met in SLC, she would take care of me in her absence. She remained true to her word for over 15 years before and after the passing of my Mom. Today and always, our family honors her legacy, her life, and her gracious beauty. Our prayers and love go out to the Hesleph family. Love The Martin Family

To the Gladys Hesleph Family. Please know that we share in the loss of this wonderful and powerful woman of God. Mom lived the life she talked about and was a great influence and role model for our family. I claimed her as my "Mom" and told her often how much I loved her. I am so thankful to God that He allowed our paths to cross. She was faithful until the end. Mom fought a good fight and finished her race and know she is resting in her heavenly father's arm. We all loved Mama Hesleph but God loved her best. She was one in a million and there WILL NEVER be another like her. Family, be strong and know that you are loved by us and we will be here for you! Weeping may endure for a night but JOY will come on the morning!
